SOA Watch's ¡Presente! T-Shirt Campaign

This design, by César Maxit, shows Ingrid Carillo, holding a picture of her relative who was forcibly disappeared by School of the Americas-trained security forces. The image is based on a photo by Linda Panetta, taken at the gates of Fort Benning, Georgia.

The word ¡Presente! means "here" or "present" in Spanish. It is used at the gates of Ft. Benning, Georgia, when we remember those who were martyred by state security forces. We pronounce their names and bring their spirits before us as we respond: "¡Presente!"...You are here with us, and you are not forgotten.

Make the Resistance Visible

Together with street artist César Maxit, SOA Watch developed a series of downloadable posters (in Spanish and English) for you to spread the word about the impact of the School of the Americas on people all over the hemisphere. The posters show the names, faces and stories of people who were murdered at the hands of graduates of the School of the Americas, and the names and faces of SOA graduates. Posters in Spanish: http://www.soaw.org/news/organizing-updates/4205-campana-de-carteles Posters in English: http://www.soaw.org/news/organizing-updates/4202-poster-campaign Let's take activism offline – post on real walls instead of only on Facebook walls! We need you to get the message out to your community. Wheatpasting is fun, cheap, and reaches a lot of people quickly. STEP 1: Print one or more of the posters in Spanish and English on regular paper, or take it to a print shop to get larger versions. (If you want to take it to the next level, print the versions without the header, cut the stencil and spray-paint the header onto the posters). STEP 2: Purchase wallpaper powder from your local hardware store or online (for the DIY folks, you can also make your own with recipes from the internet). STEP 3: HIT THE STREETS! Bring a paintbrush, posters, and your bucket of wheatpaste (and a friend to watch your back) and paste up your posters all around the city. STEP 4: Take photos and post them with them with the hashtag on your facebook page, twitter and instagram accounts!
