This week I released a new episode of the podcast...and it's the live show in Portland, OR!
For this episode I was joined by my stepmother Karen (aka the best sewist I know), Cassie of @shop_altar, and Frances of @sincerestudiopdx to talk about how sewing is an important part of a better future! Everyone said lots of smart and interesting stuff (of course) and we discussed these topics:
🧵 Maybe instant gratification isn't really that gratifying at all?
🧵 Where and how sewing became an uncommon skill
🧵 Why our lack of knowledge about sewing makes us overconsume (and expect things to be cheap and fast)
🧵 Ways for teaching more people how to sew
🧵 How sewing and making things actually makes us happier
🧵 Thoughts on the ethics of the textile supply chain and how to minimize our textile waste when sewing
🧵 How sewing and community are inextricably linked (and very important)
🧵 And so much more!
Also, my dad helped everyone on and off the stage all night long. And my Uncle Wayne laughed at all of my jokes (which I really appreciate). The actual recording of this episode was a warm fuzzy blur for me, but let me tell you...I loved listening to it while I edited it because the guests were so amazing and the audience asked great questions. Good vibes all around!!!
While I was in Portland, I thrifted the 1989 book "Bears For All Seasons," essentially a how-to for decorating with teddy bears for every season and holiday. Obviously a must-read lol. I also recently thrifted a teddy bear nightgown, so I might be in my teddy bear era? Anyway, all of the images in this post come from that book...which felt like a very appropriate way to announce this episode.
Also: I'm leaving for Japan on MONDAY, so if you want transfers, stickers, or a copy of the MEGA-zine before December, stop procrastinating!
