Summary: Lan Wanji was never told the details of his parents' story. Now that he has discovered his own desires, his life's goal is to keep Wei Wuxian from finding out. But life is cruel and truths get revealed at the worst possible times. Since I suck at summaries, here are some key features: - it's Wangxian mainly - plus some development of the prev generation Lans - plus going to war with the Wens - plus Wen Qing being totally badass - plus Jin family craziness - plus just about every character ever mentioned on the show and some assumed ones getting screentime and storylines And if you're still wondering, here's a taste: ------------------------------ “Ah, but there are other Wens here though,” Jin Guangshan gave an appraising look to Wen Ning and Wen Qing. “Who could say where they were last night.” “Where do you think I was,” Wen Qing retorted quickly, “on my wedding night?” [...] “What about him then?” a Jin pointed at Wen Ning. “He was with me,” Nie Mingjue said flatly. “All night?” Nie Huaisang peeked over his fan to stare at his brother. “What were you doing?” “Talking,” Nie Mingjue said in a threatening tone. The fan went back up.

My comments: Really fascinating and entertaining, epic fix-it with depth and twists and just, wild and uninhibited creativity along the lines of Magical Marriage Ribbons and Fallen. In which wangxian get together (after awkward adolescent stumbling) as students - a relationship that begins to solidify as they study together and debate cultivation theory and invention. (Wwx is already a prolific inventor, and lwj is reluctantly fascinated.) When the Wens attack CR (and WQ turns coat to warn the Lans that it's going to happen) it is, of course, wangxian who save the day with an insane off-the-cuff invention through which they fool the wens into thinking they burned the sect and then quite literally bag them.

There are so many departures from canon! For example, wwx figures out how to call the other Yin pieces to them; wangxian learn to combine their qi and make a single big, extremely powerful entity out of their two selves; wwx never loses his core and while he uses demonic energy, it's not in the same way it is in canon, so he's not universally reviled. And, of course, he and lwj are paired up since their student days. There is heavy focus on his talismans and inventions (yay!) They save the Wens; and stumble over child mo xuanyu (whose sass blossoms once he understands he's safe with wangxian).

Story is loaded with plot and action and character interactions and transitions seamlessly between all of them so that when your teeth ache from fluff there's angst to cleanse your palate, and the same with action and relationships. Wwx's self-worth issues are ENORMOUS and don't seem much settled by the fact that every single other sect wants him and his genius, and there's digging into his past and why he's so fucked up, which gives room for lovely emotional h/c.

And I'm not even going to go into the possessed baby xuanwus (from eggs collected by young mxy), all the illegitimate Jin brothers, the whole province given to wwx by GusuLan as thanks for winning the war (he's SO unprepared to be the Lord of a city), lwj's foul-mouthed secret uncle, the meteor and the volcano. Just. It's epic, trust me.

In the sequel (nearly another 100k) you get wwx trying to face his fears via puppy therapy, a grand cultivation tournament (featuring a newly young adult mxy and his crush), a woman with a strange history, an incredibly awkward jc, wwx hiding a secret he doesn't feel is his to tell and lwj drinking vinegar. It's delicious.

Can you please make a reader prompt where JZXun attempts to humiliate the reader at the Cloud Recesses because she rejected him but she lays into him in front of everyone?

This will probably take place in the Untamed verse because I know that they had joint classes with both genders. I’m not quite so sure it would take place in canon but it’s up to your imagination!

You are peacefully listening to Lan-laoshi lecture of the romance of Lan An and his wife when you hear the rather rude and disrespectful chatter of the gossiping Jin disciples.

You are preparing to ignore them when you hear your name being called out by one of them.

“Hey, Jin Zixun, you confessed to that girl over there, right?” You see one Jin point to you.

Another whistles. “She’s quite pretty. So, how did that go?”

“I rejected him, if you were wondering.” You say, idly picking at your nails. The Jin might be rich but you have standards. Someone who’s both ugly on the inside and stupid as Jin Zixun would not even be anywhere near on your list for potential suitors.

Jin Zixun sneers. “Who would want an girl as deficient as you anyway?”

You roll your eyes. You’ve seen this spiel happen before. Where a guy confesses, the girl rejects, and the guy saying she wasn’t worth it. In the end, the guy was just an insecure prick who thought he could get whatever he wanted.

“It was a waste of time to even give you the honor of spending time with me.”

The honor? You fumes internally. Now if that wasn’t the most arrogant, selfish thing--no. Stop, he’s just trying to get on your nerves. Calm down, me.

Jin Zixun seems to get enraged at your nonchalant attitude. “It seems like your parents didn’t teach you well.” He shouts. “You don’t even have the manners to thank me for my fleeting interest in you.” He continued this barrage about your pedigree and intelligence, even going as far as to threaten your parents!

Bringing my parents into this? And thank him? For what? Attempting to humiliate me? Okay, that’s it.

“Jin-er-gongzi.” You say sweetly. “I frankly am flattered you took the time out of your day to come court me and even make me entertained with the way you stumbled over me rejecting you. But I must say, you really are embarrassing yourself and your sect for making such a big deal out of it. Outside of the wishes of our parents and sect, you asked to court me without any of the proper protocol. You walked up to me, asked me to go out with you, and insulted me quite a few times on my choice in dress. I am quite pleased to say that out of everyone that has attempted to court me, your are the first one with the audacity to threaten my parents and my sect for rejecting you. There are plenty of fish in the sea. And yet you’re stuck on me. It seems like you’re the one who can’t get over a silly little crush on me.”

“You-You-!” He points a rude finger at you.

“You even forget basic manners.” You roll your eyes and turn to Jin Zixuan. “Jin-gongzi, I ask that you get your cousin under control. He has insulted my sect and I and I fully expect an apology from him tomorrow.” You idly brush the nonexistent dust off your skirt and turn your attention back to a sputtering Jin Zixun. “And I may just be the daughter of a minor sect; however, we do control a lot of trade. I suggest that you get a grip, Jin-er-gongzi, or there will be hell to pay.”

You give one last smile and turn back around to join up with your friends.

Summary: The magnolias are in bloom. Lan Wangji knows this. Wei Ying did not need to bring him one of the flowers as proof that they were in bloom. Not when that made him late to his punishment.

Kay's comments: Lovely canon-compliant story that features Lan Wangji's POV on one of their afternoons in the library during the Cloud Recesses study arc, when he was overseeing Wei Wuxian's punishment. I especially loved how natural it felt. Teenage Lan Wangji and that crush he isn't quite ready to acknowledge yet; I love him.

Excerpt: The pale petals sagged and wilted under the ministrations of the Yunmeng Jiang disciple. It was a fine blossom that had been plucked before its time from the tree, to be carelessly played with and discarded when the player became bored. Lan Wangji felt some kinship with the flower in that sense.
