Hello WangXian Nation, I have a Special Chapter for my fic, Lan Wangji's Accidental Husband Is An Airheaded Cutie!
Chapter 3.5: Lan Wangji and His Little Husband Solve Their First Major Case Together
The third arrow pierced what, I assumed, was the wheel of the carriage, as both my little husband and I heard the horse neigh like a wild beast and the carriage driver mutter some local slang before our carriage toppled sideways.
I engulfed all of my husband in my arms to keep him from feeling the impact of the fall. From the floor of the carriage where we were, we now rolled over to the side where the window was. “Are you okay?” I asked my husband, whose hands and legs were wrapped around me like an octopus. One look at his still post-feasting face, and I could tell fear was not what he felt. He was more curious than afraid, I could tell, as his silver-grey eyes moved in focus, scanning everything inside the toppled carriage.
My little husband blinked at me like a cat assuring their human companion of their safety. It was not enough for me, though. I did my best not to crush him underneath me as I tried to sit up and make sense of our reality.
“Did you get hurt?”

Wei Ying, beneath me, shook his head. Then he uncoiled his limbs and offered me his smile. Even in moments of distress, that smile brought me relief. “Let me move a bit, Hanguang Jun. Hold your table position, okay?” Never in my life had anyone called my planking skills a table position. I guess if I looked like a human table to my young husband, I wouldn’t mind being one.
“Stay still…” I didn’t let him leave. “We still don’t know what is going on out there.”
My little husband didn’t like being helpless or rendered incapacitated when he knew he could help. I understood his restlessness to jump out and hit our attacker, as the same impulse was burning in my veins. Unfortunately, between the two of us, only one can be reckless, and it couldn’t be me. Despite the awkward position, my little husband found a way to entertain himself by teasing me. His smaller fingers happily measured the girth of my hands and arms like a tailor measuring me for robes. “Those arms of yours are built like pillars.” There was a tinge of jealousy in that voice. I knew how desperate he was to grow tall and big like me. I accepted the compliment with as much grace as a person in my position could. “Let me open the window at least.” Wei Ying patted my biceps as he moved. Seeing how he loved to shrink and crawl underneath me made my own worry diminish a little bit. Like an octopus, he moved to open the window. All we could see was brown dirt on the road now, but the air became less heavy, and we both were able to breathe better, which helped me retain my table position to protect Wei Ying.
We stayed still for a while. No other carriages passed by either. It meant we were surrounded, or someone was currently blocking our path to Moulin.
When no more arrows hit, my husband pulled me down by the collar of my robes. Then he pressed his lips to my ear: “Husband, the arrows missed the target on purpose.”
And he was not incorrect.
Everyone on the continent knew the design of a standard carriage used by sects, and they were not moving at an alarming speed. If someone wanted to draw our blood, now was the best time. The question was, who was attacking us and why?
We didn’t need to wait for long, though. “Oooo,” Wei Ying gently pushed me off him and pulled out the arrow closest to him.
“Careful.” I tried to pull it. “It may be laced with poison."
“Oh, it is.” My husband grinned, and my heart twitched.
“Is that something you read in those romance novels of yours?”
