The demons I didn’t use would be younger or lower ranking slayers. Hantengu was previously the Rumble Hashira but is retired and has severe PTSD and anxiety, Urogi is working on developing Sound Breathing along with Nakime, and Zohakuten has only just passed Final Selection with his Serpent Breathing. They’re all brothers except for Hantengu who is their grandfather. Daki is Water Breathing I think but overall she’s a weak-ass slayer. Rui is Gyutaro’s tsuguko and Enmu is a Kakushi and he’s like totally delusional.

Instead of the Butterfly Mansion being the hospital, it’s Akaza’s Cloud Estate.

Genya is still a slayer and he’s sworn that he will kill Sanemi as both revenge for their family, whom Sanemi killed, as well as to just put Sanemi out of his misery. He also helps out at the Cloud Estate a lot, since Akaza doesn’t like getting help from people and takes on way too much at once.

Nezuko is a slayer and carries around a lil tiny demon Zenitsu on her back. Her brother, Tanjiro, was turned into a demon and he is very rapidly rising through the ranks of Moons. Nezuko is desperate to find a way to turn Tanjiro back and is helped by her friends Aoi and Murata.

Inosuke is a demon too, but he’s super isolated and very protective of his mountain territory.

Also Kyojuro was once a slayer himself but ended up becoming a demon. Not sure how yet. But there aren’t any flame breathers bc he became a demon before he could pass it on and he killed his brother and father as well.

I wanna keep going but now I’m sooooo eepy. I’ll write more tomorrow

Clouds KNY Role Swap AU Part 6

I’m thinking about Nezuko and Zenitsu today.

I know a lot of people don’t like that ship even though it’s canon. I personally think that most of their relationship actually happens outside of what we see in the show; Zenitsu has an amazing character arc and by the end of the show he has a genuine admiration for her instead of an infatuation, and they’re one of my favorite ships. It’s after the show that they grow up and Nezuko starts to fall for him as well.

That’s my view on Zenezu. Moving on.

In Clouds, Zenitsu is this lil demon boy. Nezuko first meets him bc he’s terrorizing some local women along the road (read: he’s trying to find a gf).

He can’t remember how he became a demon.

He’s just a lil guy and survives during the day by taking cover in the woods and in shacks.

So Nezzy tries attacking him and he basically just falls over in fear and she’s like “what” and she realizes he’s got zero defensive skills whatsoever.

And honestly she feels kinda bad for him.

So she decides to keep him. He seems to be calm as long as he’s clinging to a strand of her hair.

I think this is a good time to talk about the view of demons being evil in this AU.

Something that often bothers me in role swap AUs is when the characters are swapped, but they’re OOC. Thus, it’s very important to me to make sure that the characters are still mostly themselves.

Muzan is the head of the Corps, but I think he’s much more liberal than Kagaya. (This is honestly probably just my Catholic background talking).

So Muzan honestly does not care if demons have killed people as long as they are repentant and are committed to not doing it again.

So like if there’s a demon and it’s like “man I LOVE killing people” Muzan is like “fuck him up, kids” or if a demon says he’ll stop killing people but doesn’t, Muzan will be like “yes absolutely kill him.”

But if some demon guy comes to him crying and he’s like “please I’m so tired of being hunted. Please I won’t do it again” Muzan’s like “yeah you’re chill. You can live.”

Kagaya on the other hand, the Demon King, he’s quite kind. He’s slow to anger.

He’s got a quiet sort of fury. Some say it even makes him more terrifying. You never know if he’s pleased or disappointed.

But even if he is angry, you won’t realize it until you’re already dead.

Part Three of Clouds KNY Role Swap AU

Nezuko meets Zenitsu because she is tracking a demon. Turns out he’s just a lil guy with abandonment issues and being turned into a demon did NOTHING to improve them. He becomes very attached to her, and she begins carrying him in a box. He can shrink and grow like canon Nezuko, and he also sleeps to heal like she does.

It’s not long after that that she meets Aoi, who’s a Water Breather but she’s not very good at it. Oh and I forgot to mention that Nezuko does Moon Breathing.

Then, Nezuko and Aoi are called to Mt. Natagumo to deal with a boar demon. The details are fuzzy for me here but I’m a huge shipper—like seriously I’ll ship anything—and I love InoAoi. So feral boar demon man sees Aoi and he’s like “possible mate??” Not sure how I’m going to have this go while also making InoAoi canon. Most likely I’ll give up and one of the Hashira will kill him. Sadge. But here’s where they meet Murata.

And then Nezuko is brought before the Hashira and Master Muzan and they’re all like “bro why you got a demon on your back??”

That’s all I have there for the moment.

Here are some ships that I absolutely love and I’d love to try integrating into this fic. Of course, the chances of me getting to all of them in the fic is probably impossible. But a girl can dream!

The three that I most definitely want to do are TanKana, AkaRen, and KokuNaki. GiyuShino I think is out and I’m gonna try with ObaMitsu. Zenezu is one of my all time favorite ships, but I know a lot of people don’t like it so I’m not entirely sure yet about that one.

Kokushibo is the stoic Moon Hashira, and Nakime is a former Thunder Breather who had to retire after serious injuries left her blind in one eye and with chronic pain in one leg. She’s helping Urogi develop Sound Breathing.

Kokushibo greatly admires her strength and determination, but he has a hard time telling her how he feels. Nakime admires him as well, but she’s hesitant after running away from her abusive husband and joining the Corps. She’s worried things may turn out the same way.

Part Two of Clouds KNY Role Swap AU

Kokushibo is a descendant of Yoriichi, the first Breather. He’s in love with Nakime also

Douma is a totally sadistic fucker. However he met the requirements for becoming a hashira 🤷‍♀️

Akaza is the Mist Hashira and he uses Mist Breathing to create pockets of low visibility to allow for him to get close, cause he prefers close combat with nichirin knuckles. He CAN use a sword but he doesn’t like to

Gyokko is the Water Hashira for obvious reasons. I don’t like him so I haven’t thought about him too much.

For the Hantengu clones I’m going based on their separate powers and not necessarily their emotions or appearances. Sekido has the staff that gives off lightning, so I made him a Thunder Breather. Karaku has the leaf so he’s Wind Breathing, and I can’t remember what exactly Aizetsu does so I did give him Stone Breathing to go along with the weight of his sadness.

Gyutaro is the Insect Hashira for obvious reasons. I was going to make Daki a hashira along with him but I realized she was too weak to ever get that high. She hangs out with the Hashira a lot though.

Upper One Gyomei is fucking massive. Huge. He can control the earth and makes heavy stone chains. He’s also blind but of course he doesn’t need eyes to see. He’s like a gigantic fucking mole

Upper Two Sanemi loves to make horrid dust tornadoes to blind and choke his enemies as he attacks them. I think the most unsettling thing about him is the smoothness of his skin. Like it’s so smooth it looks fake. Almost like it’s been wind-polished.

Upper Three Kyojuro has a strange fascination with the Mist Hashira, Akaza. He loves to watch him fight and can never bring himself to kill him. Kyojuro is big, with large red horns and fiery hair. The heat that comes off of him is immense. He doesn’t like to walk in forests because he’s started fires before. He was also once a Flame Hashira, many decades ago.

I haven’t given much thought to Upper Four Obanai yet but I figure he’s not much different than the snake demon that killed his family in canon.

Muichiro is Upper Five. I absolutely adore Mui and I love the thought of this child—a 14 yo who’s actually one of the most formidable and powerful demons.

Upper Six Shinobu is probably way too high for how weak she is. However, he proficiency in poisons and her cunning has allowed her to climb quite high. Her blood itself is poison. She also has a pair of wings.

Lower One Mitsuri is probably technically stronger than Shinobu but she lacks the guile to climb higher. She likes to think she’s a lover, not a fighter. Tbh in my head as a demon I think she’s basically just a magical girl. Although she can also give off powerful love pheromones when she wants, and she loves spending time with the quiet Upper Four.

Giyu is Lower Two. He’s a total downer and he doesn’t work at getting higher. The only reason he’s not dead is that Lord Ubuyashiki is quite fond of him.

I thought Kanao would be a great Lower Moon since in canon she’s nearly Hashira level. She’s quiet but strong and is fantastic at taking orders.

Since becoming a demon, Tanjiro has risen quickly through the ranks. He currently sits in the Lower Four spot. He’s ruthless and bloodthirsty in his slaughter of both humans and demons alike. However, he’s paused in his climb to sort out his feelings for the graceful, obedient Kanao.

Kaigaku is Lower Five and I fucking hate him so I’m not talking about him.

Kyogai is Lower Six. He’s my baby and I love him. He deserves so much better than what happened to him, so he’s still Lower Six here :))

How Tanjiro became a demon:

Nezuko went down the mountain along with Tanjiro that day. Because they were together, they thought it would be safer, and they climbed back up the mountain after nightfall. Tanjiro stopped them when he smelled blood. He went on ahead and sent her back for help. He arrived just in time to see the Demon King, Kagaya Ubuyashiki, murdering his family. Kagaya changed him and took him, leaving Nezuko to pick up the pieces on her own. Kokushibo is the one who arrived a day late and advised Nezuko to become a slayer herself.

Clouds KNY Role Swap AU Part 4

Tanjiro, the Lower Four Moon, was renamed Moturo* when he became a demon.

I figure that Moturo watches Kanao from afar at first.

The graceful, obedient Lower Three… I’ll have to draw her for you guys. She’s nearly mute, but she follows every order given to the letter, as long as it’s from a superior, of course.

She can’t make a decision for herself, so she has a coin that she flips when a superior isn’t around.

Moturo means nothing to her at first. He’s a rank lower than she is, and therefore he is not important.

Since becoming a demon, Moturo has been ruthlessly slaughtering both humans and demons alike in order to climb the ranks. He begins by watching and studying to learn battle techniques and fighting patterns.

As he watches Kanao, he comes to admire her strength and obedience of the Master. He can’t understand why his chest starts to get warm.

He can’t understand why he can’t bring himself to kill her like he killed everyone else.

And worst of all, she refuses to acknowledge his very existence.

Kanao first notices Moturo when he completely skips over her and challenges Giyu, Lower Two. It’s the realization that this demon may suddenly become her superior that she pays attention to him. She may have to follow his orders soon.

But Giyu is much stronger than his rank indicates, and nearly kills Moturo.

Moturo remains Lower Four while Kanao stays Lower Three, but now that she’s noticed him, she can’t turn away, despite the fact that he’s still lower than she.

Then, it’s her turn to watch him from afar. She sees how his red mane seems to burn with unseen fire, and she suddenly longs to touch it.

The first time Lower Three Kanao makes a decision of her own in nearly two centuries is when she buries her face in Moturo’s crimson hair.

*I found the name on thebump.com, where it’s written “Motro” and says it means “former” or “root.” I thought both meanings worked well for a Tanjiro who is no longer Tanjiro. Upon looking it up further, the only thing I could find was that it’s the name of a character in Castle in the Sky, and it’s written モトロ, which phonetically is “motoro,” and doesn’t have any underlying meaning. However I figured out that “moto” on its own means “root” or “source,” and I suspect that the “ro” was added simply to make it a name. Lots of vowels in Japanese are sort of “skipped over,” as I like to call it. For example, the U in both Nezuko and Inosuke. Since the original name I found was written “Motro,” I decided to add the U to make it Moturo, because the U is essential silent and I like how it looks written phonetically better than I do Motoro. And yes, technically in that case it should be written モツロ “motsuro,” but honestly the Japanese like to play with names so much that it doesn’t really matter.
