“i can’t breathe, i can’t –”

It was their first day off since the incident in Dallas. Dr. Weller had been pushing them harder than ever before to get them back on their feet. So when they finally had some time off, Yaz had been spending it peacefully in their bunk. She scrolled through articles, reading any the caught her eye and just taking time to relax. The only other person in the room was Cammie, and she didn’t mind her presence at all. Especially since the young girl was sleeping after gaming all night again. Things were quiet for the longest time, and it was nice.
But then she heard Cammie starting to whimper in her sleep. A bad dream perhaps? Closing her screen and turning in her chair, Yasamin watched with brows furrowed upward in concern. After what the girl had gone through, she wasn’t shocked by the bad dreams. They came hand in hand with any sort of trauma. But as Cammie’s breathing began to quicken, and she began mumbling ‘i can’t breathe’ several times, Yaz got up and sprung into action.
“Cammie? Cammie! Wake up. You’re having a panic attack.“ She shook her shoulder strongly, using her other hand to act as a way to catch Cammie should she flail upon rousing. As the girl opened her eyes, Yasamin’s expression softened, a warm smile on her face. “You’re okay, Cammie. You’re safe; it was just a dream. Slow deep breaths ok? With me.” She inhaled deeply, watching her teammate to help guide her through and help her relax. Perhaps once she was feeling better, she would game with her to help take her mind off of things.
