Hey everybody, it’s almost International Clown Week (August 1st-7th)! To celebrate this momentous occasion, we’re encouraging folks to draw their “clownsonas” (yourself as a clown)! All you need to do to make one is this:
Find out what emotion(s) you resonate strongly with and exaggerate them in your clown. Brush up on different types of clowns to see which styles tend to match the chosen emotion(s). Don’t be afraid to break stereotypes, though! This will help decide their makeup and motifs.
Find your clown’s name! Try looking to existing clown names or things that are special to you. I find that clown name generators and Poptropica names or even racehorse names are good for this, too.
You have a clown! From here, you can go as deep as you want into what acts they specialize in, how they fit into their archetype (and how they don’t), what their stories are like, and how they interact with your friends’ clowns! Don’t be afraid to change them over time! You can listen to the latest episode of our podcast, Clowncast, for more inspiration.
You can draw your clownsona, write about them, dress up as them, or portray them however you see fit! Tag your posts as #clownsonaweek and they’ll likely be reblogged to our tumblr. Celebrate and clown around!
