Bucky asked Gwen to marry him when she was nineteen years old.

Stucky Big Bang PREVIEW

Hello, all!  We are officially allowed to share snippets of our SBB fics, so here’s a teeny tiny piece of mine.  This is from the first chapter, and it’s an edited version of the proposal scene, which in turn was one of the first scenes I envisioned for this thing.  

This is a complicated fic, with a lot of dubious territory in it-- my Stony friends, you are going to absolutely HATE me for this-- and a lot of touchy issues.  Also, it sounds like absolute trash, because it’s a genderbend TFA/WS retelling.  The big twist, here, is that Bucky is gay.  He loves Gwen (female Steve) a lot, but not in that way, and they both know it.  So the fact that he asks her to marry him is actually a dick move, but it takes Gwen-- and therefore, the story-- a while to realize it.

This is the fic which I have been calling Clusterstucky, but because that is (arguably) not the greatest title ever, it will actually be called You Would Be In Clover.  That title is from the Barenaked Ladies song, “I’ll Be That Girl”, because I think I’m funny, and also because I am 90% sure that song is either about a straight man in love with a gay girl or a gay man in love with a straight one, and either way it’s appropriate.

This fic has an All Caps endgame (Sam/Steve/Bucky).  There is also a brief period of the fic in which Howard Stark hits on Gwen, and she seriously considers accepting his advances; however, she never acts on this decision for unrelated reasons, and in the end she’s glad she didn’t.  

I promise it is classier than this description makes it sound.  :)

wip meme

I am claiming to have been tagged by the ever-fabulous @silentwalrus1​, because Chad tagged “ uhhh whoever i forgot/whoever writes and wants to do it!” and I want to do it, so there.  Last complete sentence of my wip, here we go:

Tony Stark had dark hair, a goatee, a quick mouth, and eyes that brought back memories of a hatred and violence that Bucky couldn’t quite pin down into fact.  

Do not read this and think Tony has a big part in this fic.  I am 103 thousand words in and he has shown up twice now, being a dick both times.  He has good reasons, and when I post the fic I will also post meta about those reasons because I thought long and hard about them and damnit I’m not gonna waste that, but he still comes off as a dick.

My greatest typo so far:  an excerpt from my Stucky Big Bang

Winter Soldier POV.  Bucky is one day out from the helicarriers, and doesn’t remember anything.  So Gwen (femme!Steve) fills him in:

When he had his breath back, Gwen had gone on, telling him about the war, about her own registration into the SSR— finally, something he did know; some of that had been in his briefing, although not much— and about her toying with the idea of dallying with Stark.  “You encouraged me,” she had said, half-apologetic.  “And after you died— or, seemed like you died, anyway...  It seemed like the right thing to do.  To pick myself up and keep moving, because you wouldn’t have wanted me to top.”  

There are many things Bucky doesn’t want in this fic, but Gwen topping is one of the few he’s actually in favor of!

for the wip thingy - "smile"

For the ask meme. 

Fun fact-- I so far have “smile” 75 times in this document, out of 66,001 words, which works out to once every 880 words.  That is... probably too much.  *looks for synonyms*

In the mean time, though, that means you get two!

Bucky looked at her— mostly; his eyes weren’t too focused— and smiled with a kind of fondness that warmed her in spite of her rage— and broke her heart, too, both of them all at once.  “You cuss like a sailor, Gwennie.”

“I can’t believe you!” she exclaimed.

“Really?  You can’t believe me?”  Peggy’s eyebrows had rocketed upwards.

“You shot a car!”

“It needed to be stopped,” Peggy shrugged.  “You ran after a pair of hired killers, minutes after a revolutionary medical procedure!  And furthermore, you did it without shoes!”

Gwen ducked her head.  “Oh, damn,” she said softly.  She smiled ruefully at Peggy.  “They probably won’t fit anymore now, will they?  D’you think maybe I could borrow a pair?”
