So I finished my Wilde essay which means I can stop and compose some thoughts about Mid-Atlantic Quidditch Regionals. (I'll put it under a cut, I know a lot of you don't follow me for the quidditch.)
My team rocked it. We didn't get a bid, and we only one a single match, but we rocked it. This year, we got to the play-in bracket. Next year, we'll do better. And who knows? Maybe a couple years from now, I'll hear about my little babies qualifying for World Cup. But for now, all I can say is how proud I am of them all.
We racked up a pretty hefty injuries list. I got a concussion. We've got a broken tibia and two sprained knees. Broken finger. Severe back pain. Deep bruising. One midnight ER trip. But we're all okay, and we all had an amazing time together. I know I say it a lot, but I LOVE. MY. TEAM. I love them.
And we have GROWN. When we went to our first tournament, World Cup V, we were thirteen players struggling to get through it. And this past weekend, we had a full roster of 21, with a handful of freshman who know what commitment and love of the game is all about. And even though we didn't win much, we put up a fight, and that's what matters. Our first match against the Philadelphia Honey Badgers was the longest match of the tournament (over 41 minutes) and the only game to go into double overtime. You can't tell me that isn't fighting.
And I want to especially thank my reffing team. After my concussion, I wasn't allowed to continue reffing, but me and my four-person ref reps were some of the only people who stayed to fulfill reffing duties after our team fell out of the tournament. Reffing four games in a row in the freezing cold, staying almost six hours later than the rest of the team, just because they knew the IQA needed them. That is what we want our team to be about -- good sportsmanship, dedication to the sport, and lots of quove.
And we've got that down. Thank you, CMQC, for an incredible Regionals.
