Here's a coaling tower along the Michigan Central/New York Central. We’re just east of Michigan City, Indiana, along Highway 12. In the distance, between the tower's legs, one can see the huge cooling (not coaling) tower for NIPSCO.
In an upcoming photo book, Jeff Brouws concentrates on these Goliaths of an earlier era. A preview of the text states that this particular tower was built by Roberts and Schaefer in 1924. In a day or two, look for a post of mine that will show an Amtrak train racing past/through this structure.
