Eva Walker, the Black Tones
Eva Walker, 2019
Back when Eva and I were first discussing this shoot she’d mentioned to me doing some nudes with just her Chuck’s, later she added the glasses as well. Eva is one of the coolest most talented people I know, and I think this image helps show that off. As a diehard Kodak shooter this was oddly just the second time I’d ever shot on Portra 800 and if memory serves me the first time I accidentally shot it at 400, so this would be the first time shooting at boxspeed. A lot of people swear by it but typically the price is a real turn-off. I can think of some other situations where I would probably prefer 800 over 400 or even Ektar, and I will definitely try it again under different conditions. Looking at these images an 800 speed film really wasn’t necessary and I could have use ol’ reliable- Portra 400 and been just as happy. Though a lot of people have complaints about skin tones and Ektar that might be my go to for any vibrant color shoots, especially because I’ll be tweaking the tones later on anyway. I don’t know, thoughts? When do you shoot Porta 800 or any of the Kodak family really?
