Coccomyces dentatus on Oregon Grape by Richard Droker Via Flickr: I'm surprised at the comments for a lowly fungus. Many thanks. This is very common around here. It is even more attractive and interesting than photos reveal. The tiny (hexagonal mostly, compare with www.ascofrance.com/forum/6158/pyramidal-pyren ) black objects are fruiting bodies (ascocarps), which open a close in a neat way.
