Urban hiking on a Saturday afternoon. Long trek from Clarksville to 'Juan in a Million', popular east side Mexican restaurant that gained notoriety for breakfast burrito the size of a keg. Bellies unnaturally full, on the walk back on Cesar Chavez.
Cesar Chavez is a unique road. We call it the 'Valley of the Pinatas'. We've counted. At least 6 stores sell pinatas on this block. Seasonal favorite - turkey pinata in black and white with bright red gobbler. It is called a gobbler, right?
Vintage boutique on opposite side of the street. Make a run for it across traffic. Intrigued by cinder block couch with desert plants stretching out of the top.
Coco Coquette and Charm School Vintage's porch is littered with bright colored petticoats blowing on metal dress racks. Chipped paint steps. Open sign, hanging.
Inside, a dream come true. House converted into boutique, salon, and mysterious back room boasting burlesque accessories, ornate wigs, luminous eye shadows and sparkly jewelry. Favorite items included:
Modern gold and sun-bleached coral earrings
Collection of sequined blouses and sweaters
Rhinestone encrusted rings
Girls night out alert - upon chatting with one of the owners, learned that there are after hours private parties. Step 1 - coordinate 7-8 of your closest friends. Step 2 - trade off browsing incredible vintage, getting your makeup done, and selecting a wig to wear for a night out. Step 3 - Photographer arrives. Yes, you guessed right... private glamor shot session is included.
Need I say more? This place is awesome!
