Sanity Isn’t The Void
CHAPTER TWO
Directory
Chris was facing off in a little friendly competition he and the other members of 141 did regularly. Gaz, Ghost, Soap, and Silence himself participated in it while Price complained about his bad knees and sat out and acted as the referee. Currently Gaz and Soap were throwing each other around on the training mat, Ghost was watching intently while Chris himself couldn’t help but seem disturbed. Price gave a dark chuckle as Soap got the wind knocked clean out of his chest, it was truly a sight to behold. Gaz eventually won the match and Soap sulked as he got off the mat.
“Alright, Silence, your go with Kyle.” Price said suddenly and he brought Chris out of his thoughts. The shorter male swallowed hard and took his mask off, not wanting to get it damaged during the match. Gaz gave a playful gasp, acting as if he was surprised that Chris took his mask off. The entirety of 141 has seen him maskless before, so Silence just rolled his eyes and got onto the mat.
“Make this a clean fight, boys, I don’t want to see anything other than bruises drawn. If there is any blood I will make sure the one responsible will run drill the rest of the week until sundown.” Price commanded as he rested his elbows on the desk they had and then his head on his hands, “Got it?”
Kyle nodded his head and Chris gave a hesitant nod of his own. Ghost sighed, sitting down in a chair near Price. The match began. Silence was on high alert, practically smelling the pain he’d gain in a moment. Gaz tried to throw a punch towards his gut, only for Chris to take his arm and rip it behind his back. Silence’s knee got pushed into Kyle’s back, he groaned in pain as he was pushed into the mat. Chris’s brown eyes were laser focused, barely hearing the groans Gaz gave. The male below Silence saw an opening and took it, practically dragging Silence onto the mat. His head collided with the mat first, causing him to give out a stuttering groan. Price gave a small sound of concern, but it was half audible. Chris looked up at Kyle before wrapping his legs around the taller male’s neck and causing the tables to turn.
Gaz cried out in surprise, not expecting this to happen. Chris wasn’t there anymore. His eyes reflected who he was, what he was. Silence had taken his place, the usual look of the calm and shy male was replaced with a ravenous look. This shot fear through the other four males in the room. He lost it, it was time to pull him off Kyle.
“Chris, Chris. Silence buddy, c’mon, get off him.” Price tried, his efforts going in vain. Silence’s hands were around Gaz’s throat, so Simon had to intervene. Ghost was actually successful in pulling Chris off of Kyle.
He yelled at Soap, “GET HIS MASK AND GET IT ON HIS FACE!” Johnny was immediately into action, his Scottish fingers quickly grabbing at the pure black mask Chris wore usually. Ghost was straining on keeping Silence still, “Keep him still Lt, or we’re gonna have to knock ‘em out.” Soap yelled, he was worried not only for Silence but for himself and the others. If Chris didn’t get subdued he could go off the hinges and have to be shoved into the crazy room. Which.. The crazy room wasn’t that bad, if you aren’t in there for long. It’s a padded cell with nothing in it, Silence had to be shoved in there quite a few times already.. But one more time couldn’t hurt, could it?
The mask didn’t work. Chris was still thrashing around and trying to get at Kyle. So it was time for the crazy room. As they approached it, he was grunting more. Chris was thrashing even harder, wanting to get free from Simon’s grasp. But the English male was so damn strong that he wasn’t able to even wiggle his torso or hips. The door to the room was opened and he was thrown inside, “Sorry, mate, maybe when you calm down you can come out..” Kyle said sympathetically as the door was closed.
Chris spent a good five days there, his worst breakdown yet. Price was starting to get concerned about him, he repeatedly spoke to Laswell about his concerns. But all Laswell did was brush it off and said he’d be fine eventually. It got when it was about a problem around a week and a half. Everyone could basically tell that Chris wasn’t okay. He shouldn’t be there this long. Silence’s mental breakdown was growing out of hand, Price was bringing it up even more with Laswell too.
But one faithful day he got out, Silence had been silent ever since he got out. Simon was tasked with keeping track of him, since he was unstable. Chris was currently staring numbly at a book Ghost shoved at him, not that he’d read it. Simon was sitting at his desk, doing god knows what.. Maybe paperwork of his own. That’s the one thing Silence enjoyed about the taller male, he’s a quiet man.
“Chris,” Ghost pulled Chris out of his thoughts, blinking up at the other male, “are you okay? You’ve been so quiet lately.” Silence just continued blinking up at him, hardly hearing the concerned tone in his voice. Simon’s eyes glanced all over Silence’s face, but there was no sign of an emotion, “Christopher?” He still blinked up at him, no emotion registering still. This was growing eerie, “Christopher M.?” Simon still didn’t get a response, “Christopher Makarov?”
That got a reaction, a small reaction. But it was still a reaction all the same, “Don’t use my last name.” Silence mumbled out numbly, glaring at the taller male. Ghost chuckled and ruffled his hair, “Right, got it.” Chris stared back down at the book numbly, “Используйте его только в случае необходимости.” (Only use it if needed to.) Ghost blinked at Chris, surprised because he spoke in Russian.

A week went by since that “incident”, Silence has been living up to his name, he’s been silent. Price has been needing to translate since Chris hasn’t spoken English since before the “incident”. Things have been very eerie since then, like an ever present feeling of dread has taken over the team.
Which is why the next field mission was incredibly tense, so very tense. Gaz was trying to defuse the tension, as was Soap, but nothing was working. It remained tense and uncomfortable, “Успокойтесь все вы.” (Calm down, all of you.) Price glanced at Silence as he spoke, “He said we should all calm down..” Ghost noticed the oddly tense look in Silence’s shoulders. It was almost like he knew something they didn’t. And he probably did.
