Code Vein 2 but thinking about Hunter/Josee.

Like, she calls us Beloved, Darling, Betrothed, Opens up a lot to us and the game admits her Fake Engagement has turned into real feelings after her Personal Quest where we help her find the spices for her dish. She’s very clearly open and pining for a relationship that she doesn’t know can’t be.

Our Hunter, from the Present, knows the truth. I imagine that even if they did fall for Josee, they don’t encourage it by language or actions as a way to distant themselves (and fail) from her because of the inevitable hurt. They don’t flirt back, they don’t call her pet names, they don’t get close when it comes to themselves. To them it’s an empty promise of a happier life.

One Miraculous Bonds Ending later? Oh yeah, Hunter is gonna sweep Josèe off her feet. They are gonna wake up, realize that they finally reached the good ending, and immediately turn Josèe’s Base into a Wedding Venue. She’ll have to be the one to tell the Hunter to slow down which is ironic.

I imagine during the Honeymoon (or heck, even before the Wedding) The Hunter will explain their seemingly out of the blue devotion on their relationship and marriage.

(Also it doesn’t matter the gender, Josèe will probably not let the Hunter see the sun for like, a week during the Honeymoon-)

I've been playing Code Vein 2, and as the fan of the first, I'm quite loving it! Photo mode in this game is also just as satisfying as beating a boss for me 👩‍🍳💋

Just imagining Josée in the 2nd ending of Code Vein, who actually fell for a human Hunter but wanted to be married for life anyways, sit by our Cocoon. Maybe talk about her new job. Maybe talk about Wedding plans she and Lise had made. Thing she thought she’d have time for with us, only for us to die in front of her.

And the fact that with all that planning, the wedding would never be. We had to kill her twice, we always knew the plans and the bonding with her and Lise would only result in heartbreak.

Maybe the Hunter fought for that life, for that chance. But fate literally will not let the two be together.

It’s so damn tragic.

Unless you count the Miraculous Bonds Ending where we come back. But that leads to the question of did our Hunter take pity on a Hero and let them come up with these plans of a happy life because it would never come to pass? Or does the Hunter (Your Hunter), truly love Josée?

Honestly, I wasn’t a fan of the Josée romance in the beginning. It seemed like it fed the male audience with the fact there wasn’t a male option but they wrote it so damn well. Or it struck and stuck. She clearly loves us, the game dangles all these other heroes that people would like to romance but can’t.

(Valentin. He in particular. Imagine doing all of this for humanity, promising to this human Hunter Noah picked off the tunnels who helped him, that he’d secure them a better future… only to either A) Kill everyone they bonded with in the 1st ending or B) Make them sacrifice themselves in the end for his misguided and doomed attempt to save humanity.)

Like Josée and Valentin can line up to be such good stories with such tragic endings.

Whatever goal and dream you had is no longer there.

What empty hollow remains will be filled with friends and love.

You will kill them, one by one.

Whatever bonds you forge, no matter how strong will never erase the fact you are a pawn.

Macaria Crane lost her family at eight, taken in by the Magmell Orphanage after her Grandmother’s town had been razed by Horrors. While Magmell takes good care of its human occupants, there was no action to combat the emotional distress she suffered, and continued to suffer as she found no purpose or sense of belonging.

It seemed like a no-brainer to become a Hunter working for Magmell. She would work to become strong enough to protect others and herself, while having the underlying hope that to fall in duty would be to reunite with her family proudly.

She did indeed fall during an island evacuation gone awry at the age of nineteen, giving her life to aid in the innocent townsfolk escape towards the mainland. Her seeming selfless act, budding talent and protecting a Revenant who was desperate to aid others but couldn’t, resulted in Voda House’s Matriarch adding her an elaborate plan decades in the making. A pawn in their game, a soldier to follow orders, and a tool to be used.

Macaria awoke with hardly any sense of self and a choice to either aid humanity in a heroic journey, or to die so the half heart within her chest could go to another willing Hunter. With no agency, Macaria accepted the weight of the world: to kill the Heroes who gave their lives in a failed attempt to seal the Resurgence, accompanied by the Revenant she died protecting who would always stand by her side.

To see the world for what it was in their times and see the twisted and lost heroes as who they once were. They became friends, brothers-in-arms, and unexpectedly partners- bonds that warmed her ashen heart and soothed a mind that couldn’t fully understand the past hurt it had endured. She cherished them all- and it ripped her own heart each time she had to rip their own. The only saving grace was that their futures, their hopes and dreams, the people they cherished, would live on through her. That gave her a reason to continue on.

She vowed to protect and cherish each Heroes legacy, and every person they left behind. She loved Revenantkind more than her own people.

But she was still just a Pawn, unaware that the hand who guided her would finally reach the checkmate because of her actions.

And all of Revenantkind had lost.
