As much as I loved Persona 4 as an SMT/Persona installment, the features of Persona 3 Portable really kept me coming back. The perspective of the Female MC vastly expands on the game’s replay value to add onto a game that already closely rivals 4 in terms of touching story/character and addictive gameplay. Plus playing SMT on a portable system just feels right. Idk how Golden compares, but I’m really put off at the fact they didn’t have a Female MC this time around in comparison to P3P. (srsly atlus wtf)
Chrono Trigger is another JRPG that really wowed me. It’s beautifly paced and illustrated and the time travel aspect couldn’t have been handled better (for interactrions in both the story and the gameplay). I might replay this a 6th time sometime.
Already a seemingly obligatory choice; Super Smash Bros. Brawl was improved even further by various hacks/mods that kept me jumping for the game even after logging in countless wasted ?hours. Little more can be said about this game that hasn’t been already; but an all-star Nintendo crossover fighter can never get old. *aggressively waits for the Wii U/3DS sequel*
Cave Story is a game everybody needs to play. Not only is it free to download on mac, PC, and other various ports, but adds just the right amount of story, exploation, and character to your megaman-formula side-scroller/shooter. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve played through this one. I’d hope that more people in general at least play it once.
A more recent (and more obvious) choice of mine given my current main fandom would have to go to Dangan Ronpa. (To my followers: yes, I’ve actually played it! Having access to a hacked PSP and the fan translation patch is a wonderful thing! I’d at least mention the sequel if they had an English patch for that one x_x) I don’t think I need to explain to this website what truly makes this game shine, but if there’s anything I can add to that: is actually getting to play it. Even if I was spoiled on some of the twists, putting the peices of the mysteries together yourself is not something that you can replicate easily from reading a lets play. I can’t remember the last time I’ve had such a hard time putting a game down.
If I had to narrow it down to 5, these are the one’s I’d have to go with
