Unpopular opinion but I liked this episode? Lol maybe I just enjoyed her sass

honestly, it wasn’t even necessarily the story that annoyed me (i barely remember it, and i’d remember if i hated it, so it was probably average to me), I just really hate backdoor pilots and 99% of the time I find they poorly write the original characters to make the new guys look good (not necessarily in an OOC way, just that they kind of limit the characters’ intelligence to half of what it is normally to justify the presence of two teams), and add on top of that that I wasn’t impressed with the acting from two of the new actors, and it hasn’t left a good impression at all.

I also can’t remember specifically the drama here (at this time in fandom, there was new drama every day), but if you think in context of events, all of this spin off stuff was happening concurrently with the Paget and AJ mess(tm), and it started to air right about the time CBS started excusing their sexism by claiming it was about money, and when they fork out lots of money to do a new spin off and wreck their main cast in the original at the exact same time, siting money reasons for doing it, it looks so very very bad. So i think there’s also a negative perception that just stems entirely from circumstance as well.

Plus, I think nowadays my perception is also coloured by the fact that I hated the spin off in itself, even separated from the circumstances? I thought it was terribly written and i’m kind of convinced some of the writers who were shoved out of CM after season 5 to work on it deliberately bombed it. B/c i liked their cm episodes but their spin off ones, yikes.
