Returning after an unexpected extended absence, Rex is neither thrown out of the Shatterdome instantaneously nor thrown back into the action he's missed for so long. Left in a probationary status, Rex has to prove to those watching him that he is not only capable of going toe-to-toe with the Kaiju again, but also worthy of standing at the helm of his Jaeger - all whilst reaffirming his connection with his not-so-dead co-pilot.

What do you mean it's not still Day 1 somewhere?

A little later than intended (thanks to a best friend's wedding, a family birthday and this thing far exceeding the 5k words I had originally envisioned), but here's my first contribution to Codex Week, and my first official Clone Wars fic! Hopefully I've left myself enough steam to get to a couple more prompts in due course, though at this rate I seem to be incapable of writing anything less than 10k words...
