Rex watched the holo for a couple of minutes, trying and failing to make sense in the messy web of relationships between the characters, before turning to Cody: "You have a terrible taste, ori'vod." What he really wanted to say was "We haven't even been in a battle yet and you've almost died already, so I'm going to stay with you here, watching you, making sure you are safe."
Another day of the #codexweek , pre-series Cody and Rex (look at him, his hair is so long!)

Codex Week Day 1: Can't See The Forest For The Trees
Fives times Cody and Rex swore it was platonic and the time they realised it wasn't. One day, Cody is going to snap and haul every officer in the Third Systems Army and force them to sit for three hours while he explains in painful detail the difference between less and fewer. There will be etymology lessons, examples and if he’s feeling extra spiteful, pictures. Either that or he'll save himself the effort and begin suplexing anyone who gets it wrong until they figure it out for themselves. It would be immensely more satisfying, and probably more efficient; he could combine it with required physical standards checks.
He rubs a hand down his face. He’s possibly overdue a break.
It’s only late evening — not that it makes much difference while they’re on the Negotiator and surrounded by a constant of white lights inside and endless black out the windows — but it feels later than it is. He and Rex have been at this for hours, combing through reports in search of the common thread in the bad intel they’ve been working with.
It’s not really their job, but no one else has had any luck, and they’re getting a little desperate.
Cody has given up half of his desk to Rex, and they’ve been working shoulder to shoulder but for Cody leaving for ten minutes to grab them both lunch, and a handful of piss breaks between them.
Cody is about at the end of his patience, even if the silent company stretched it a little further.
Cody leans back in his chair and examines Rex. He looks about as Cody would expect, purple under his eyes, shadow of stubble over his jaw and he keeps rubbing at the back of his neck like he’s twinged it. He looks exactly like a man who’s spent too much time pouring over paperwork without finding a way to properly unwind.
And like with Cody, that need to relax has probably been building over far longer than just today.
“When was the last time you got laid, Captain?” Cody asks.
