I feel that no one understands one hundred percent the narrative of Roman's character. Many believe that he moves out of pure hatred towards others, but I see it as negative nostalgia. He lives in the nostalgia of the shield, we see this when in wrestlemania Seth yelled at him that he no longer had them and that Mox (Dean) was no longer there to rescue him.

He is the only one who has not overcome the shield, he does not even mention them, since he has the pain that having so much power he could not stop Seth from moving away and Dean from vanishing. For him, it is painful to think what was powerful and intimidating in the ring, but, outside of it, it was not enough reason to prevent Dean from abandoning him and Seth from moving away.

Not mentioning the shield and Dean gives him the power to forget everything, to forget his vulnerable moment and his own insecurities of not being enough reason for people to stay. And there is nothing Roman loves more than having the last word.

For this same negative nostalgia he became a dictator and a terror for the roster during his stage of tribal Chief Heel, since, by subduing his family and the world, he was making sure that no one else was going to leave him, as Dean and Seth Rollins did before.

That's why he hates punk, seth or Cody himself so much, because they represent that nostalgia that he himself hates and wants to hide.

Punk, on the one hand, represents his beginning. How he was added to Seth and Dean's friendship so that the three would go up to the roster and defend punk, how it was because of this that they became more united and the world knew them; the nostalgia of the beginning of his life in the sport he loved.

Seth, is his ex-brother, the clear memory of someone he loved madly and who considered another part of his world along with Dean, his duo and for whom he would have fought a thousand battles without questioning, that unconditional love (or at least on his part), Seth represents the pain of thinking about that love and admiration that was betrayed and that broke the only thing he considered family; the shield.

Cody, on the other hand, is the clear example of someone wanting to dethrone him. He is not so close to him, but still, he wants to break his legacy. It is the nostalgia of what he took away the stability of the titles he had, the respect that the world and others had for him, and the beginning of his new family (the bloodline) was already beginning to break definitively. It's the nostalgia of reminding him that he was still a thing; VULNERABLE.

And now he has the nostalgia of what his right hand, Paul Heyman, is with the people who hate him, with Brock Lesnar (a person who has always hated him), Drew (person he hurt in the past), Bron and Bronson (people who hurt his family). For now, Roman is accepting that he is alone, he no longer has any family in which to take refuge and think that he has the power to no longer feel human, he no longer has the power to see himself without feelings. And that terrifies him.

That's why he himself mentioned that he wants one of the Cody or punk titles. Not because he wants another title to his collection, but because for him, gold represents power, and he thinks that if he has power and gold, he will have a family, like when he was a champion with Seth and they had Dean, like when he was a dictator with championships and had the bloodline. Even if he denies it, Roman just wants another excuse to be able to feel powerful again, and above all; Beloved.
