the black widow slowly sifts through her newly purchased magazine of people while sitting at her local brunch spot , seemingly enjoying her afternoon as a rich , married housewife. the waiter greets her kindly & sits her usual glass of rose on the table for her , leaving with the promise of bringing her favorite dish when he returns. debbie smiles & responds pleasantly to this wonderful treatment , but her eyes continuously dart toward her phone & the time , keeping track of when she should be back home. on any normal afternoon , she'd spend most of her time here chatting up people or reading ━━ anything to get away from her particularly annoying new husband , but today she has limited time , just as her husband does . . . & the clock keeps ticking & ticking , his death approaching closer. her poor husband was foolish to think debbie actually learned how to cook all in an effort to please him , when in actuality , she knew just how & only did so when it suited her. his roast beef , a favorite dish of his , was cooked just to perfection , the meat juicy & tender. it's so delicious , he won't even notice the poison she managed to slip in & it'll only take one hour for it to claim him , finally granting her the funds she needs to get the hell out of this hellhole of a town.
the wine glass is lifted to her lips , ready to savor it in a premature victory , but she stops herself before taking a drink. the widow's surroundings are very quiet & empty save for the music softly playing in the background & the waiters that walk in & out of the room. ❝ hmm . . . ❞ debbie hums quietly as she flips through the pages , acting as if she didn't suspect anything , despite her eyes giving her away , looking around , searching for her target. ❝ i should have known you'd be here. ❞ she doesn't appear to be speaking to anyone , the room empty . . . until it wasn't. after a few moments , debbie is tired of the charade & sets her magazine down , her grin growing sharp as her suspicions are made correct , a friendly face appearing just as her marriage draws to a close. what timing. ❝ you always loved the stench of trouble , & i just reek of it , don't i ? ❞
