Anyone interested in my summarised review of @realcoleworld #KOD album? NO? Here it is anyway. ✊😂. Today let's begin with the artwork. I've removed all the psychedelic colours that poke subliminal fun at the millennials and their new age intoxicated unicorn drug culture. The fine print "This not intended to glorify addiction" in discrete serif type face seems to clarify any confusion he perceives may occur. The album cover is setting a precedent before I listen. HipHop artwork, when not a gratuitous shot of the artist looking iced out has always interested me. Eg.#midnightmarauders by @atcq was a seminal piece of iconic art that never ages. . When we look at a crowned king Cole, we see the whites of his eyes suggesting many things, namely he's off his face or perhaps even possessed by the ancient spirits. The blinged out hand with extended pinky finger, equipped with untrimmed long pinky nail means you aren't doing manual labor, so you're better off than most. It's also known as a #cokenail suggesting he's making fun of the #cokehead rap generation. Note, he's still got his dreads so hence I believe he's punning. When a person has one significantly longer fingernail on one or both hand(s), most often the pinkie nail, which is used for scooping up powder cocaine and snorting it. This is known as doing a bump. The nail becomes the vessel as opposed to needing an item to snort a line of coke through; ie, a straw, rolled up dollar bill, etc... . Below his heart chakra we see children skulls perhaps representing the dying culture of HipHop as well as bleeding into the harsh reality of today's druggie and junkie habits of the youth. As a semi elder, #JCole is making his feelings clear to the yungens. And goes onto explain in the track #Brackets how democracy is failing and the politics of tax being misspent at the cost of failed educational Systems, a lack of minority role models and brandishing local politics as dead weight. Perhaps that's why we then see the Mexican/desi kid popping pills, a caucasian female snorting white powder off a plate and a couple of young brothers toking what looks like a crack pipe, the other sipping on lean (#codeine) through a straw.
