Return of the Coketail
Many of you may be wondering how Mark gets by on his preferred diet of Cokes and candy bars when most other elite athletes are consuming high-tech sport foods by well-known sports nutrition companies. It really boils down to caloric intake and the body's ability to convert it to energy. The candy bars are easy to understand. Cokes on the other hand are full of carbonation which seems at odds with efficient digestion. So exactly how does Mark drink all those Cokes while riding a bike?
The answer is "The Coketail," shaken, not stirred, prepared using the following time-refined procedure (there is a procedure for EVERYTHING taking place in a Team Pattinson follow vehicle).
Crack the tab on a 12 ounce Coke and empty the contents into a standard cycling water bottle (no ice….ever)
Gently swirl or shake water bottle allowing the CO2 to escape through the slightly cracked top. Repeat forever.
Continue swirling and shaking - A Coke can never be too flat.
Wipe entire water bottle down with pre-moistened hand towel. Cleanliness is imperative.
Dispose of towel and Coke can into trash bucket located behind seat. Backseat clutter in the follow vehicle is frowned upon.
Place water bottle containing now de-carbonated Coke in the ice chest and wait for Mark to request a Coke.
REPEAT as necessary until arrival in Annapolis.
Perhaps the crew can provide a tally of the number Cokes Mark has consumed over the past 2200 plus miles.
