Ok finally playing cold front and I'm like three minutes in but @magnes-io was onto something because said three minutes are so chengxian coded

Like what do you mean MC was here first then some other kid appeared and they spent all their time together but suddenly you're grown up and your now best friend is better than you in every way and also doesn't want to talk to you because of One Event you're not even sure about?? Rip JC and his insecurities cos he could definitely relate

(also them freaking out over snow in July is funny because for me that's just another classic England weather move. It HAS hailed in late June)

Cold Front Warrior Cats AU!!!

i wasn’t originally going to post this, but i figured “why not?”

Meet Elkfrost (Winnie) and Bearheart (Augustine)!

Doodles + a uhh. very. Long story below the cut!

Ok so

Story time!!! (Sorry in advance ;-; I simplified it as much as i could and its still so long lol)

So Bearkit (Augustine) was born four moons before Elkkit (Winnie). When Elkkit was born they were instantly best friends, having no other kits in the nursery at the time. (Elkkit had another sibling who died during birth named Moonkit.) When Bearkit became an apprentice, Elkkit wasn’t able to spend as much time with him anymore, tending to be closer with the new kits in the nursery who were slightly younger than him.

Just before Elkkit turned 6 moons old (Bearpaw was 10), his mother, named Frostwing, died. Surprisingly, instead of seeking comfort in his younger friends, he turned to Bearpaw. Bearpaw, of course, was happy to help and glad that his best friend was talking to him again.

Soon enough, Elkkit became Elkpaw, and the two were close again, even asking their mentors to train together occasionally. [insert two teens playfighting with romantic tension.]

During training, Elkpaw really pushes ahead of Bearpaw, and passes his warrior assessment first. Elkpaw asks the clan leader, Finchstar, (who is his uncle and Frostwing’s brother) to name him Elkfrost in his mother’s memory.

Despite being friends their whole apprenticeship, Bearpaw is once again pushed aside as Elkfrost finds new friends who are also warriors. He wonders if Elkfrost only hung out with him out of convenience. (At this point he knows he probably has feelings for Elkfrost, but denies it at all costs.)

When Bearpaw finally passes his assessment and becomes Bearheart (ironic, considering he’s constantly denying his true feelings), he approaches Elkfrost after the ceremony, happy to now be on equal footing.

Elkfrost, however, does his best to ignore him. He slips and meets Bearheart’s eyes for a moment before turning away, face heating.

Bearheart takes this as rejection. If Winnie reciprocated his feelings, he wouldn’t have turned away. (When in reality, it’s only the opposite. Elkfrost loves him, but is afraid to express it.)

As the moons go by, neither speak to one other, only shooting loving glaces behind each other’s backs. Eventually, the clan deputy retires and Elkfrost is chosen as the new deputy. This time, Elkfrost is the one to approach Bearheart first. Bearheart still turns away, still sour about what happened moons ago.

A huge battle between the clans happens shortly after, Bearheart being forced to watch as Elkfrost helps lead the charge into battle.

Elkfrost gets into a tight spot during the fight, and Bearheart rushes to save him. Elkfrost yells at him. “You idiot! Now you’ve gotten yourself into this mess for me! Why?! You don’t even like me!!”

Not even thinking, Bearheart just replied with a smile, “Who said I don’t like you?”

“Wh-what?” Elkfrost blinks. “I thought-… after my deputy ceremony-“

“I didn’t want to talk to you because I was afraid. Afraid of getting my heart broken.” He shook his head. “I know you don’t like me back and-“

Another warrior jumped on Bearheart, immediately making him fall to the floor. “Bearheart!” Elkfrost screeched, before being forcefully dragged away from him.

When the battle was over, Elkfrost desperately searched through the survivors for Bearheart, only to find a circle of warriors around his body.

Bearheart died. He died without Elkfrost ever telling him that he loved him too. Sobbing, Elkfrost collapsed over his body.

He only got up when his clanmates had to prepare his body for burial. Stricken with grief, Elkfrost only stumbled away from the battlefield to lay near a cliff beside the lake.

(Oof okay, this is getting long and I doubt anyone will read this far anyways. I don’t feel like writing them out rn, but this au has 2 endings. 

Either

1. He kills himself to be closer to Augustine,

or,

2. He survives long enough to be clan leader, living a long life but never taking a mate. That spot of his heart is reserved for Augustine, and Augustine only.)
