The snowflakes fall silent and cold . . .

Cold words

Has everything that I have written been in vain?

When I have kept count of every effort

For a kind of perfection I could only dream to attain.

Each crystal clear idea I wished to have built upon

The metaphors I could have lost myself in until every doubt was gone.

The words I wrote echoed back to me

Light whisperings of how the final verse could be.

But for every word that I didn't choose

I ended up putting another higher stake

For a game I was pre destined to lose.

And suddenly even my own words started to fail me,

They came to a screeching stop

Mocking me for not being a poet I had pretended to be.

All my old notes turned to black

The letters smudged and unrecognizable

Verses I once knew like my hand's back.

Therefore the new pages I write on are different

I have carved everything in ice

And frostbiten fingers are just a meager price...
