The human body needs to remain at a similar temperature to survive - around 37 degree Celsius. When you feel chilly, small sensors in your skin send messages to your cerebrum letting you know need to warm up. Your cerebrum sends messages to nerves everywhere on your body advising your muscles to fix and relax truly quick, which is the thing that we call shuddering.
