So I’m totally chill with Q/Arielle/Eliot being a poly family, and either Rupert is the name of Arielle’s dad, *or* she took Q’s last name when they got married--mostly cuz I have this funny as hell mental image of Eliot being like “No I am NOT taking your name, the kid is getting Waugh! WaughWaughWaugh! Fucking hyphenate that shit, you weirdly heteronormative bi-disaster!!!” And stamping his foot with epic pout-power. 

. . . it just makes me giggle.

Though I am still a teeny tad bit uncomfortable about Arielle being killed off when Teddy was so young, because it does kinda reek of “Convenient Uterus” syndrome. Wherein yeah, sure, they were a poly family . . . for a minute until Arielle had the good manners to die, having provided Queliot with a small child to raise. 

Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t ruin the storyline for me, and I love the Coldwater-Waugh thing. But if S5 ever does revisit the Fillory Timeline directly, like with flashbacks, I hope it’s not 100% scenes of the Coldwater-Waugh family after her death, like just celebrating the fuck out of The Dads and Teddy Being Adorable! While Arielle is just the fondly remembered Mom-ghost. I’d want at least a scene or two fully celebrating their throuple-ness as opposed to the 3x05 content which just implied that’s what they were. Damn, we really do ask a lot of our writers, don’t we??? Like we’re a ravenous pack of demanding motherfuckers over here! It’s amazing they tolerate us.

A Terrible Idea:

Another funny as fuck thought: y’know how we never actually saw Arielle’s funeral, or even them visiting her grave? I know it would be a total writing-cheat, but a part of me would almost (heavy emphasis on almost) love it if in an S5 flashback to the Coldwater-Waugh’s middle-aged years, Arielle just shows up all like “Hey family, I’m on vacation from that Super Important Job that takes me out of town for long periods of time! Golly, it’s good to be home!” *hugs and kisses all around* 

Horrible writing choice in Actual Reality Land, but as a headcanon it’s funny as hell.
