Cole was practically skipping up the basement stairs. The rush of a fresh kill and filling up his freezer for the next month had the ghoul feeling giddy. He'd had to start going a few towns over to hunt. People within his own had started to notice. Monthly, sometimes more often, murders weren't exactly inconspicuous. It wasn't like anyone suspected him of anything though, not when he was friendly and warm as could be on a daily basis. They didn't know the insatiable hunger he felt for both lives and flesh. He'd even escaped notice of his partner somehow. Knowing that they were working late meant that he didn't have to come up with an excuse to go out that night. Bringing the corpse down to the basement and breaking it down had been more relaxing than usual.
And he could actually shower upstairs instead of washing up down there. He certainly needed it. There was blood...everywhere. That was where he was heading when he opened the door into the kitchen and saw them standing there. His brows lifted. They must've gotten home while he'd been down there. Earlier than expected. Cole sighed. His actions were all too casual as he closed the basement door and turned to face them, running a bloodstained hand through his hair. The next few seconds were going to determine a lot for him. "You know," he began. "As nice as it is to have you home early, I really wish you would've called."
