Posted @withregram • @mosaic_images On January 12, 1963, Donald Byrd recorded a ground-breaking album entitled “A New Perspective” with an all-star septet, arranger Duke Pearson and a choir led by Coleridge Perkinson. Duke Pearson’s haunting and mastefully performed “Cristo Redentor” became a jazz standard. These Francis Wolff photos from the actual session include Byrd with Alfred Lion, Herbie Hancock, Perkinson, Byrd with Pearson and Hank Mobley with Hancock and Pearson in the background.
