Now that he and Colette officially acknowledged they’re friends (which took him clearly longer to admit than her) it shouldn’t be weird for them to meet up occasionally, right?

Yet, he was somewhat nervous. Why didn’t he think this more through before agreeing to visit Evenkoi Beach with her? Sure, he’s never been to the beach here before, so he was a little curious about the location here in Waypoint. But now that he was changed, meaning wearing his swimming trunks and a light jacket, waiting for her to get changed as well made him feel kind of awkward.

The weather was nice and warm. It wasn’t even too hot thanks to the occasional breeze. The sounds of waves were relaxing too, but he still was very stiff once he heard Colette approaching him. A short glance at her revealed that she was now wearing her swimsuit too. Thankfully, it wasn’t a two piece so he wouldn’t have to worry too much about his eyes wanderi-... Wait, what was he thinking?!

Well, it still was the first time that he has seen her wearing anything but long-sleeved clothes. She looked cute, but he was worried he’d weird her out if he’d stare at her any longer than those few seconds he already did. Which was why he quickly looked the other way.

“You’ve got everything? So, er...” Since he was wearing no beanie or scarf, all he got to nervously tug on this time was a strand of hair.

“Is there anything you want to do right now?” She can’t know he hasn’t visited any beaches in forever! That’s why he really should quit being this nervous, but that would have been so much easier if he was here with a fellow guy instead of a girl... 

“Ah... How about we look for a shady spot for our bags and bath towels first?”

“I made these charms for us. I hope that will make it easier to catch one.” Mariela presents two necklaces made from twine that have a paper attached at the end, a circular glyph drawn onto it. “It’s a Magical Circle of Forest Welcome. It should make it so the animals here don’t see us as much of a threat.”

She really wished she had the animal handling skills that Yuric did, but neither her nor Koo was here. Colette and the alchemist were standing behind a tree in the hills of Whisperwood looking out to a rocky outcropping. Here a herd of mountain goats were grazing on the shrubs at the bottom of the hill, or climbing sideways up the rocks. Mariela was conflicted because on one hand, these beasts of burden were really good at carrying heavy loads across far distances. On another hand...they were really tasty in a stew. Focus, focus, Mariela!

“I’ve got some herbs with me that these fellas love to chew on. If we can lure one out and subdue it...and then somehow get one of our charms around its neck...it may work!” There’s no way this plan will go wrong. Sure their horns would really hurt if they headbutted you. Sure they were not the friendliest animals, but they were domesticated in the Labyrinth City! They were happy as long as they were fed well.

“Fascinating--so both of us were transferred to the same planet? Surely the odds of that are astronomical. You haven’t been here long have you?” From what she knew of how these worlds worked, there was no guarantee that the Colette from her own timeline would have been the one she met here. The fact that she actually remembered living with her before was a comfort. Of course, the professor was still very on-edge and suspicious about this whole situation. She would never betray her nervousness that to the girl, however. She had to be level-headed and reliable. She could not give her student any doubts.

The two stood beside a vendor stall at the farmer’s market, sipping on some hot apple cider. ...Did the vendors really stay outside in the cold all day? How miserable.

“And has anything happened since you have arrived--anything dangerous?”
