...And another yawn left his mouth. Shin disliked the day shift at his new job for a good reason. Not only was the pay worse compared to the later shifts but getting up early in the morning was hard as well. Impatiently, he glanced once again at the clock on the wall. At least it was already past 6 pm, soon he would be able to head home and continue this new game he started the day before. 

The common beeping noise this store made when another customer entered the convenience store stopped him from continuing his daydreaming though.

Whatever, this will be his last customer for today. With that self-comforting thought, he decided to check on that customer that was in front of the dairy aisle right now from behind the counter. Wait a moment! That slender and short figure with long golden hair... Yeah, there was no doubt about it, this was Colette!

Somehow this realization made him nervous! Their last meeting was weird, wasn’t it?! Then again, which time they did hang out together didn’t turn out strangely emotional so far? Something was off about her, or maybe there was something off about him! Either way, he just knew that each time he get close to this girl, his emotions turned into one big mess. 

Did she still remember that he did run off last time in haste without any real explanation? Would she comment on it today? Ugh, he’d better think of good excuses before she would come to the counter.

Unlucky as he was, she did just that way quicker than he expected. Come to think of it... He never told her before that he started to work as a part-timer here. Not that it was any of her business of course! But still, she must be surprised to see him here...

“Good evening, miss Colette.” A nonchalant greeting compared to the earlier anxiety he felt on the inside. “Didn’t know you’re shopping here as well!”

Another casual remark before he started to scan her items. He usually didn’t pay a lot of attention to what people bought or didn’t buy. But this was different because it was someone he knew. 

From the things she selected, he could already guess that it was a small grocery stock up one would do on their way home. Yet, he still decided to ask: “Did you have another long day at the cafe? Haha, earning money can be a real pain, right? Luckily, I’m about to clock out any moment now as well!”

Culture shock was an understatement. Already thoroughly disturbed by the fact that every single bystander he came across he could actually see their face, Blood decided to take a break from the crowds to be alone. Wonderland was chaos brought to life, always shifting and changing with no rhyme or reason, but there were a base set of rules. The first being that most everyone was replaceable, insignificant. But if the populace was not Faceless here, was he not surrounded by Outsiders? 

It was frustrating. 

What would he do now that he was just another face in the crowd? Would anyone here even know of the Hatters? Of the role he held? People didn’t stop in their tracks or clear the way when they saw him.

He sneered down at the cup of tea set down before him. Blood sat at an upscale café seated outside under an umbrella. An ornate pot of tea, milk pot, and cup of sugar was placed before him. He studied the movement of people on the street, people watching to decipher this world. When the flutter of blonde hair in motion obstructed his peripheral vision, he turned his head and quickly changed his expression to a wry grin. He had an appearance to keep up after all. It couldn’t be rumored that Blood Dupre was troubled.

“Young lady, were you looking for a seat? I don’t mind the company if you are an appreciator of fine teas.” He motioned leisurely at the chair across from his.

“Lady Colette! It’s you...!”

Grimm dashes up to her, having decided to browse around this vast green field he’d spotted while flying around. His little wormy child is hanging onto his neck, clinging to the warmth of its father. Good thing it doesn’t seem to disturbed by the abrupt location changes...?

“The meaning of any of this I am uncertain of, but it is fortuitous to know some of our friends are about. You are keeping your hopes up, yes?” He winks.

After leaving the very busy and bright area known as Techno Solar, Waka found himself in a quiet wood. This suited him, for he needed some time away in order to get used to the strange place he found himself in. While he was no stranger to technology, he found the sudden bombardment of it to be a bit too much. It also didn’t resemble that of the Moon Tribe, and thus would take some time to get used to, which he didn’t feel like doing at the moment.

Instead he brought his flute to his lips, playing a small melody as he walked forward.

Now that he and Colette officially acknowledged they’re friends (which took him clearly longer to admit than her) it shouldn’t be weird for them to meet up occasionally, right?

Yet, he was somewhat nervous. Why didn’t he think this more through before agreeing to visit Evenkoi Beach with her? Sure, he’s never been to the beach here before, so he was a little curious about the location here in Waypoint. But now that he was changed, meaning wearing his swimming trunks and a light jacket, waiting for her to get changed as well made him feel kind of awkward.

The weather was nice and warm. It wasn’t even too hot thanks to the occasional breeze. The sounds of waves were relaxing too, but he still was very stiff once he heard Colette approaching him. A short glance at her revealed that she was now wearing her swimsuit too. Thankfully, it wasn’t a two piece so he wouldn’t have to worry too much about his eyes wanderi-... Wait, what was he thinking?!

Well, it still was the first time that he has seen her wearing anything but long-sleeved clothes. She looked cute, but he was worried he’d weird her out if he’d stare at her any longer than those few seconds he already did. Which was why he quickly looked the other way.

“You’ve got everything? So, er...” Since he was wearing no beanie or scarf, all he got to nervously tug on this time was a strand of hair.

“Is there anything you want to do right now?” She can’t know he hasn’t visited any beaches in forever! That’s why he really should quit being this nervous, but that would have been so much easier if he was here with a fellow guy instead of a girl... 

“Ah... How about we look for a shady spot for our bags and bath towels first?”

As much as he enjoyed strolling around the bazaar that evening, Blood decided that this entire trip was a nuisance. He got what he came here for, a tea blend with spices only found at this one particular stall and a stained glass decoration that he had plans to give away. Otherwise all he believed this outing was good for was making him appreciate a nice bath and the luxuries of air conditioning. 

He spent the entirety of the morning and afternoon inside of the lodge, and now he finally felt he was able to take a stroll outside without being burned to a crisp. ...Except in his haste for fresh air he forgot that the desert was actually freezing at night. He quickly decided was getting on the first coach back to that coffin of an elevator in the morning. The wind howled through the Stepping Stone Resort, and Blood stared suspiciously at the empty bazaar at the heart of the grounds.

He didn’t have much of a goal in mind while wandering, but he eventually found himself at the entrance of the Resort. The closer he got to the dunes outside, the more frequently he could swear that the wind sounded like a person whispering into his ear. He hit his palm against his ear and shook his head, turning around to find no one there. Multicolored strings of lights flickered under abandoned tents. A strong wind blew sand towards his face and he turned to the side to keep it out of his eyes. That’s when he saw that someone else seemed to be a restless sleeper that night.

A familiar blonde stood looking dazed, one hand clutched to her heart as she wordlessly stared into the dunes. With hesitation, her feet began inching forward. As much as Blood wanted to head back into the lodge and say it wasn’t his responsibility...nobody else seemed to be looking after her. Without thinking, Blood picked up his pace and grabbed onto her wrist.

“Miss Colette, what are you doing venturing off on your own this late at night?”

Shin still didn’t really know what to think of it. Colette was one of the people here that knew way more about him than he was really comfortable with. The most astonishing thing about that though, was that this fact didn’t stop her from wanting to spend time with him.

Quite the opposite was the case. This time, she asked him if he could show her around Techno Solar. It seemed like she had a good time here the last time she got... ‘lost’ here. Apparently, none other than his bud Add was the one who helped her find her way back home that time.

Anyhow, they strolled already through some stores so far, and honestly speaking, after so much walking, he was relieved when Colette suggested to go eat lunch together. A break was a break after all! 

They were already sitting at a table nearby a window, waiting for their orders which did take quite a while until they were finally served. Shin got some mild curry, while Colette’s order looked... somewhat surprising. 

Shin couldn’t help but watch Colette inspecting her dish with her fork first. She still hadn’t taken a bite yet. And a closer look at her plate made it even more clear, that she was busy removing the green peppers to the side of the rest of her meal. Come to think of it, she did order them without the green veggies, right?​

“Not like this is any of my business, but didn’t you explicitly say you want that dish without the green peppers? Why not complain about it and ask for a replacement?”

"Excuse me, miss Colette!” Sou cleared his throat to make himself noticeable, getting the attention of the girl working here now. “Ah.... it’s been a while, huh? I remember back in that other place, you also worked for Mariela in a café... Ah and I heard Altair works here too, is he in the back?” Come to think of it, the first time he visited the café back then was also the first time he met Colette, but this also brought up some other memories...

“As you know, I usually drink my coffee black, but for today I uh... “ He did bring the exact same excuse last time, to get a milk-coffee. But as if it was anyone’s business that he couldn’t handle the black kind!! “A cappuccino, please. And... whatever beverage you want, it’ll be my treat.” A pause before he added in a quieter voice: “...As thanks since you helped me with my injured ankle last time.” 

But of course, Sou couldn’t do such a nice gesture without distracting from it right after. Which was why he mischievously smiled at her and added:

“Oh and by the way, do I have to pay extra if I want it in cups instead of spilled all over my jacket, or will a tip be enough?”
