Nurse Crane and Sister Veronica making an exception for Nancy and Colette regarding TB hits different when you realize Nancy never had anyone to fight for her, to care enough to bend the rules, to find ways to reassure her, to realize she needed that reassurance - not since childhood anyway.
And now Nancy has it all. She has sisters, friends, mother figures, auntie figures, and people who will bend over backwards to care for her. Who will adjust rules to protect her daughter to reassure her.
They both went from being abused by convent sisters to being doted on by convent sisters and nurses. They went from having to live apart to sharing a makeshift apartment. They went from having to hide who they are to each other to being able to easily and loudly shout out how much they mean to each other and *who* they are to each other.
The way in which each of the sisters (nuns and nurses) care for Nancy and Colette makes me emotional.
A behind-the-scenes Call the Midwife season 14 picture confirms that filming is well under way on the new season.
"What better place to show you our progress than in the Nonnatus House dining room - perhaps the location most central to our drama, and the room where all our stories really happen.
"That remark may seem surprising. Surely the birthing room is the most important driver of the action? Or the darkest parts of Poplar?
"Yes, those places are important. But the one indispensable scene in every episode is the place where our characters can share their thoughts together, and comprehend things that have happened to them as a community.
"It's the place where we shed light on our characters' personalities - how they might interact with each other. Also, it's a place for humour. And cake!
"In this shot, director Syd Macartney discusses the important elements of the forthcoming dining room scene with Jenny Agutter (Sr Julienne) and the team.
"A dining room scene takes longer to film, because there are usually lots of people present. Each character will have their moment for dialogue, or a reaction to someone else's words. In an ensemble drama like ours, every character has something to say - even if they're not speaking."

Call The Midwife’s 2023 Christmas Special begins two weeks before Christmas, with Apollo 8 poised to circle the moon.
Sister Monica Joan (Judy Parfitt) is convinced this could be her final Yuletide and decides she’ll not live to see man walk on the moon. The Nonnatus Family, including Trixie’s (Helen George) brother Geoffrey (Christopher Harper), decide something must be done to try and lighten her state of mind. Nancy (Megan Cusack) has recommitted to staying at Nonnatus House and Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter) has offered her and Colette (Francesca Fullilove) a room for the foreseeable future. Trixie and Matthew (Olly Rix), fresh from their honeymoon, are preparing their first Christmas together as husband and wife when Geoffrey pays them an unexpected visit days before Christmas. Cyril (Zephryn Taitte) gently intervenes when he discovers a lost soul living alone in a dilapidated basement flat. For this man, Christmas is a reminder of all he’s lost and all he’s never had. Nurse Crane (Linda Bassett), away on her refresher course, makes it home in time for Christmas festivities despite a treacherously heavy snowfall.

Call the Midwife star teases "awkward" Christmas for Trixie and Matthew
"Despite what they might want it to be like, they don't get the choice."
Radio Times:
The Call the Midwife Christmas special is almost upon us and its stars have been teasing what we can expect from the annual TV event.
Speaking about what's in store for Trixie and Matthew, Helen George said: "It's their first Christmas together as a married couple, so it's one of those awkward years when they're trying to work out what they're going to do.
"And Trixie doesn't really have any family apart from Nonnatus House, and of course he's a Chelsea boy, so does he really want to spend Christmas in Poplar?"
Olly Rix continued: "And despite what they might want it to be like, they don't get the choice. They have this house guest [Trixie's brother Geoffrey], and they have all these obligations at Nonnatus House. He's just sort of screaming inside."
"He hides it well," said George.
"With a smile, or a grimace," added Rix.
George went on to discuss the dynamic between Trixie and her brother, and how Geoffrey's presence impacts Matthew.
"They just kind of settle back into that sibling relationship where they love each other dearly, but can wind each other up and all the rest of it," she explained. "He's a really fun energy to have around and so different from our relationship, Trixie's relationship with Matthew.
"They [Matthew and Geoffrey] are just such different entities, so the clash of the two of them together, Matthew raising an eyebrow and Geoffrey's flourish, it's a lovely juxtaposition of characters.
"And I think they complement each other very well. You can imagine how they were brought up. And there are lots of lovely scenes where… we refer back to our childhood and our father and the unhappiness, and how they both learned to use comedy and glamour as a way of distorting the truth."
This year's festive special kicks off two weeks before Christmas with "Apollo 8 poised to circle the moon". But back at Nonnatus House, "Sister Monica Joan is convinced this could be her last Yuletide and decides she'll not live to see man walk on the moon", prompting her friends to take action in an effort to "lighten her state of mind".
Elsewhere, "Nancy has recommitted to staying at Nonnatus House", "Cyril gently intervenes when he discovers a lost soul living alone in a dilapidated basement flat", and Nurse Crane, who is away on her refresher course, attempts to make it back in time for Christmas.
New Call the Midwife pictures reveal huge fan favorite returns for Christmas special
What's On TV:
New pictures for the Call the Midwife Christmas special 2023 have been released - and they show a favorite character will be making a return for the festivities.
The festive special, which will air on Christmas Day on BBC One in the UK and PBS in the US will see Christmas 1968 getting underway in Nonnatus House. But while newlyweds Matthew (Olly Rix) and Trixie (Helen George) are looking forward to their first Christmas together as Mr and Mrs, they are soon sprung with an unexpected visitor - Trixie's brother Geoffrey (Christopher Harper)!
Geoffery was a firm favorite with viewers when he arrived in Call the Midwife season 12 for Trixie and Matthew's wedding and helped his sister get ready for the biggest day of her life.
Fans couldn't get enough of Geoffery's wit and charm, and now he's back for Christmas to see Trixie and also make himself useful as the residents of Nonnatus House plan a very special yuletide for Sister Monica Joan (Judy Parfitt) after she becomes convinced this could be her final Christmas.
It has also been confirmed by the BBC that Nancy (Megan Cusack) has recommitted to staying at Nonnatus House after Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter) offers her and her daughter Colette (Francesca Fullilove) a room for the foreseeable future, meaning we will be seeing plenty more of Nancy in Call the Midwife season 13 next year.
It has also been revealed that the Christmas special will see Cyril (Zephryn Taitte) gently intervene when he discovers a lost soul living alone in a dilapidated basement flat, while Nurse Crane (Linda Bassett), away on her refresher course, makes it home in time for Christmas festivities despite treacherously heavy snowfall.
While we are still waiting for the official Christmas TV schedules to be confirmed for 2023, Call the Midwife Christmas specials traditionally air on Christmas Day at around 8 pm on BBC One.
In the US the Call the Midwife Christmas special also traditionally airs on Christmas Day on PBS around 9 pm ET.
