Some excitement about the new episode

We have 5 generations of girls & women in this episode. This is something really rare for any other show.

The youngest:

May and Angela are solidly out of the"yay"-Phase of kiddie acting and while they are still in identical clothing they at least start to behave like two different persons. They observe and comment what is going on in their family and at age 10-12 we could maybe see how they have conversations with their mother / parents about growing up. And about being adopted.

Three young women:

Rosalind, Sister Catherine and Joyce are the young adult women who have gathered some life experience and make plans for the future they aspire to. Plenty of time to become a hospital matron, I have every confidence in Joyce. Rosalind has to navigate her job and a relationship becoming more serious and probably the question of children at some point in this series - no idea what her path will lead to but I'm happy she's happy right now. Also recruiting the other midwives for the women's lib, good job! Sister Catherine's story will be very interesting, I hope. The Poplar people are used to working with the Nonnatus nuns and respect them, but she is a highly qualified professional in her line of work already with modern views where people might not expect them. I find her more confident and steady than many of the other young nurses and nuns we have seen so far. Her quiet strength reminds me of Cynthia.

Our trio of women in their forties:

Trixie!! She'll get her own post. About being beautiful and being cat called and the image she is keeping up and her changing status through the years.

Shelagh burning her bra. Who would have thought we'd get here when she appeared in her previous incarnation. I think it is a continuation from her mirror scene. A new way for her to look at herself and ask "do I really want this?" We always want her to get more medical stories because she is good in them. People like Turnadette and people enjoy her creativity with any kind of social event. I'm of the view that shes been enjoying the role as a mother of many a lot because she never thought she could live like this. Now her story goes on and she is in conversation with her husband who is not just the writer's favourite but also truly a partner for her. The Turners are the foil for the Buckles, because they are in the same social circle but it's reversed who has the higher social status (doctor and nurse Vs mayor-shopkeeper and pliers operator turned shopkeeper.

Sister Veronica has been criticised for her fibbing behaviour and she is aware that people find her overbearing. And I love the representation for the annoying women who have struggled with this all their lives. now she is at a point in her life when the sacrifices for being a nun hit her harder again and she needs to decide if it is worth it (in my opinion it's not but I'm not sure if we're really getting another ex-nun).

And the three best-agers:

Phyllis and Millicent have so much fun together and I hope they get a lot more happy times. Don't you dare tear them apart tragically! If one of the actresses leaves then they should both retire to a seaside cottage. No sad deaths!

Sister Julienne is in a phase of her life where much remains the same no matter what changes. The religious life will give you structure and midwifery will keep you humble. Weathering storms or celebrating with the community, her continued work gives the entire house its foundation.

The oldest of the women, the almost mythological Sister Monica Joan, must be nearly 100. She was nearly 90 in s5. I'd say she will see her hundredth birthday and as long as Judy Parfitt is around there will be an ancient nun sharing whimsy and wisdom. Getting to this age is still rare but it was even more rare in the 1970s. (So glad they listened after so many years of fans asking for a prequel!)

I think ms higgins might have had a few really cute lesbian romances in the past (like picnics and arts and crafts) but they all ended because she absolutely could not bear the idea of living with another person.

Like she started all those relationships with a (maybe not the most clearly communicated) expectation that it would be a short non-committal relationship. She is very happy to have had them and not at all upset that they ended
