Hurry and be hornswoggled by the hackneyed in Colette Fu’s veracious and verklempting visuals. The artist crimps together a collage satirizing a commodity-driven culture that gets too batty over binge activities like eating, exercising, and all-too-eager consumerism. In full Oz color do we see the inherent absurdity in constant spectatorship, judging, and unhealthy concepts of comparison. The artwork is marbled with insights into our askew societal norms and offers an escape hatch to eschew these vapid views.
Fu fosters, “My attempt is to show the destructive impulses that I have already experienced within the obsessiveness of the journey and imprint of what has become a daily preoccupation of millions of people.” The artist furthers, “I have a need for complexity that is obsessive, rewarding and most of all fun.”
Colette Fu compels you to find the wherefore to withstand the weary woebegone wheedling of societal expectations. “I hope that my imagery can help bring viewers into a sort of public waking dream state where they can later explore and become aware of their own private fears, hopes and desires.”
