i enjoyed it a lot. it is essentially just a bunch of jokes strung together but most of them land and if one doesn’t there’s another one immediately. it’s really fast-paced, and there’s always something else to cut to, album covers, “cmz” coverage, social media reactions, performances of songs, talking head interviews with other musicians talking about the influence of style boyz and conner4real. there’s a ridiculous amount of cameos, some of them as themselves and a bunch of blink and you’ll miss it ones where they’re a character or in costume (yes, joanna newsom is in the movie in a quick cutaway gag, although the brevity and her being in costume meant i didn’t realize it until the end credits). it’s only 86 minutes so they don’t waste time or drag out subplots, they just cram in as many jokes as they can fit and get out before it becomes tiring. you’re not really gonna miss anything not seeing it in theaters (and it seems like people aren’t, judging by the box office and the fact that i was one of six people in the theater although it was 8:20 on a tuesday night), it will definitely play just as well at home, but it’s silly and stupid fun and that’s all i wanted from it so i’m pretty pleased with it.

@coliejoon the thick of it is reductively the english version of veep (or the series of in the loop). it’s mostly the same team behind the camera and it’s also a sitcom set behind the scenes in politics. and like veep it’s very stressful, vulgar, and meanspirited and basically all the characters are horrible people treating people horribly or ineffectual people being crushed and compromised by the horrible people and environment surrounding them. but if you like strong doses of bitterness and bleakness mixed into comedy they’re some of the best at it. also, quick warning, if you get motion sick be cautious because it’s all shot handheld and there’s a significant amount of jerky camerawork.

I just wanted to say how much I value your blog and all the work you do to make it as great as it is! MedievalPOC is actually the reason I signed up for Tumblr in the first place. Thank you for teaching me so many things I probably wouldn't have learned about otherwise.

Thank you so, so much. Although it makes me wonder why Tumblr is so disinterested in the safety of people who provide the content that people sign up for Tumblr to interact with. But at the same time, it’s not like police do anything:

"They told me that they could make a report. That’s all they could do," she says. "And that if something were to happen to me one day then they would have this report to look at and know who did it.”

^ That is pretty much where I’m at, as well. I personally think that if social media sites were better about actually protecting the creators that make their content, it wouldn’t have to get to this kind of extreme. I mean, imagine an actual “block” function that allowed you to block people…
