Colin Sullivan Appointed Managing Director of Infleqtion UK
UK leadership is strengthened by former RAF deputy force commander Colin Sullivan MBE as managing director.
Global leader in neutral atom-based quantum technology Infleqtion has appointed Colin Sullivan MBE as Managing Director for its UK operations, a major development for the British quantum environment. Sullivan will immediately oversee the organization's drive to integrate quantum research into deployable capabilities for commercial, defense, and security. After announcing plans to go public in September 2025 through a business combination with Churchill Capital Corp X, a SPAC, this nomination marks a major development for the company.
An Effective Quantum Future Leader
Colin Sullivan's employment is notable due to his decades of front-line military experience and senior public and business leadership. Deputy Force Commander and Chief Operations Officer were among his prominent RAF appointments. He also served as Senior Military Advisor to the UK's defense research initiative, giving him a unique perspective on national security and technology.
Outside of the military, Colin Sullivan has excelled in worldwide aerospace and defense. He led Lockheed Martin UK and Boeing Defense UK before joining HENSOLDT UK as UK Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Government Affairs. He remains the UK's National Air and Space Delegate to the NATO Industry Advisory Group (NIAG), providing corporate input on allied defense capabilities' strategic priorities. He has a master's in international relations from King's College London and a Royal College of Defense Studies degree, solidifying his strategy expertise.
Increasing UK Quantum Footprint
Infleqtion's hiring of Colin Sullivan shows their commitment to the UK quantum environment. The company is working with industry and government partners on regional quantum sensing and computing projects.
Infleqtion's recent UK operations were highlighted by its selection to accelerate the SQALE neutral-atom platform at the National Quantum Computing Centre (NQCC). Our partnership with premier UK institutions aims to increase gate execution rates by 10x to 100x for fault-tolerant quantum computing.
Tiqker optical-clock technology from Infleqtion is being tested in sensing. The company conducted Royal Navy sea trials to prove GPS-free navigation on an autonomous maritime platform. Such technology is necessary for “GPS-denied” operations for national security and resilience.
A Complete Quantum Solution Set
Colin Sullivan will oversee many operational products. Neutral-atom technology, which uses “nature’s perfect qubits” for high-performance computation and sensing, underpins Infleqtion’s technology stack. The product line includes:
The full-stack, fault-tolerant neutral atom system SQALE platform is used in quantum computing.
Inertial sensing for GPS-free location and the Tiqker Atomic Clock for critical applications.
Quantum RF Receivers: Rydberg atomic sensing transforms spectrum sensing. The Superstaq software platform accelerates quantum application time to value.
Though theoretical, the U.S. Department of War, NASA, and the U.K. government use these technologies, and the company has multiple agreements with NVIDIA.
Promoting Industry Innovation
Although security and military are top concerns, Infleqtion's products are employed in many commercial and scientific fields. The UK branch, managed by Colin Sullivan, will review applications in:
Energy and Resource Exploration: Quantum optimization for smarter grid management and sustainability.
Drug discovery and life sciences accelerate illness research and precision therapy.
Materials Science: Quantum-powered simulation of effective materials can cut R&D time from decades to months.
Finance: Faster decision-making and deeper analysis improve portfolio management. AI/ML: Contextual machine learning provides real-time insights.
How to Reach Public Markets
This hiring occurs as Infleqtion prepares to combine with Churchill Capital Corp X. Infleqtion will go public after this deal. Churchill X is a “blank check” firm that promotes commercial partnerships. This funding allows operations to expand and meet global demand for quantum solutions.
Infleqtion CEO Matt Kinsella said the UK is building a major quantum program. Sullivan called the UK a “global center of excellence.” Combining technology with operational deployment is his goal.
Colin Sullivan is Infleqtion's UK navigator, ensuring that quantum technology's complex, promising "vessel" makes it from the lab to the difficult waters of commercial applications.
