The Exquisite Forest is a collaborative art project providing shared online platform for users to create great collaborative animations. Users can explore a variety of animation themes and contribute artistic work to develop the animation story with a specific theme. As a result, the animation tree resembling the creation pathways grows while more contributors get involved into the narrative animation.
This project is created by Chris Milk and Aaron Koblin, they are also well known for two other collaborative design projects: The Wilderness Downtown and The Johnny Cash Project. Like Exquisite Forest, they share the same concern of get individual creators working together as a community to develop unique art projects.
Exquisite Forest is supported by the technologies of Google App Engine, Google Cloud Storage and several HTML5 features in Google Chrome. App Engine is used to build, maintain and dynamically scale the project, while Google Cloud Storage provides video and image hosting for the project. The service provides duplication across Google’s global data centers, so animations can be served quickly to users around the world, regardless of location.
The project combines these digital technologies to build a brilliant creating experience for users. Users receive a great amount of data every day, while each of them contribute data to the digital world at some point. At this animation collaborative creating platform, individuals are able to work with artists all over the world and have exciting creation experience. In conclusion, this project shows us a great example of how to generate and incorporate these data in an innovative and interactive way.
