For me this bizzarro collage was a startling evidence that time and space, cause and effect, aren't what we think they are. Consider .... The monkey is a photo from a magazine from c . 1980s of a painting from c .1600s. That a friend gave me in the early 2000's. The boy is a photo taken c.1930s in a history magazine from the 80s I bought in the 2000s. About a decade later they both end up in my collage box, along with tons of other clippings and magazines. One day, I randomly cut them out along with other possible bits for a collage. I place the kid on the page. I place the monkey on his shoulder. And it fits ... perfectly?! Pause to consider the sheer amount of factors/events in history that had to conspire for this to happen. If you really think it through, it's staggering. Is it something like The Observer Effect? Was my creation of the collage the effect that set in motion its causes? Sounds crazy, but less so to me than "coincidence." (A term favored by the unimaginative to keep their world safely boring lol).
