3 Principles To Defend Yourself With A Collapsible Baton
We have all been there. An unruly troublemaker blocks your way down a street. All you have is your trusty collapsible baton. But do you know how to use it correctly to tackle the person?
A telescopic baton is not an easy self defense tool to master. But don't worry, you don't have to go to a police academy to learn basic tricks of the trade. We have got you covered with our three basic principles for collapsible baton fighting. Let's get started.
Strike First
While it is advisable to use a collapsible baton as a straining tool when someone has their full faculties and as being not just uncooperative or active resistance but assaultive.
We wouldn't recommend attempting a control technique with a baton until you've created that window of opportunity and sometimes that window of opportunity never arises and that's going to mean striking the person.
Striking with a collapsible baton on the head or a broad set of muscles is crucial if you want to get an upper hand in an assault situation.
Whether it causes a distraction or some actual injury, the first strike is going to get you started for what's to come next. Then when that opportunity is there taking advantage of it as your aim is to go for ultimate controlled hold over the miscreant.
Attack From The Outside

You can first try and hit the hand while trying to get under the elbow of your attacker with one arm holding the collapsible baton and then when you find that there's an opportunity-something like weakened grip, you strike from under the elbow.

Take Control

You need to get into a certain position where you can actually control them and put cuffs on them or alarm someone.

Now all you need to do is transition to a position where your shoulder and knee are over each other. Typically, protocol would suggest you drop the collapsible baton and cross your ankles. Now you can take out handcuffs if you have any or raise alarm.
