RE: American Gov't issues during COVID x Social Unrest
They're completely inadequate, almost an afterthought or half-assed appeasement. The most critical need not being met in my community is a rent freeze.
The sweeps and lack of support for the houseless community made it impossible for them to keep safe from the virus.
My community is one of the most food insecure in the nation, even before the pandemic and COVID has just exacerbated this issue.
Poor response/messaging. Poor distribution of aid. Poor social enforcement of distancing and mask wearing measures.
The gov is fuqed re: COVID. Felt like we had no one but each other for ten months. The unhoused community in Eugene. It’s incredibly painful for me to witness. I hope I can do a lot more this year to help them.
The support for school meals and increased SNAP has been helpful. I wish that there could have been more creative ways to address childcare, although no safe options come to mind. I would have liked to see a more unified approach to science based public health guidelines - backed by certain politicians of power.
I recognized in my community many people were without work and without financial government assistance.
US government was a total failure. State (OR) government gave a good effort but it was inadequate.
No organized federal relief strategy left every state scrambling individually, including my own.
Unlawful evictions still took place left and right in my community this year, despite efforts at the state level to alleviate this. Also inadequate stimulus funds at a time when every citizen should be getting paid to stay home.
This is what I call a failed state.
Many of my community members were out of work with little to no government assistance.
When people band together to do what’s right, progress can be made even if the government does not care to care for people.
Lies. Propaganda. Misdirection, misinformation. Mismanaged resources. Cogs in an apathetic wheel - and this is a feature not a bug. Focused on the wrong things.
Not enough support, and distributed ineffectively and unfairly. Why do I, a childless, employed, white collar person get a stimulus check while a college student working minimum wage does not? The need I see most in my circle of friends, colleagues and acquaintances is the plight of parents who have to work and supervise their children full time. Mostly this is women.
The government failed our nation through lack of planning pre pandemic and lack of organization and reliable information during.
The utter lack of coherent direction, no actions that could or should be called "support", an absolute abdication and cold disinterest in the country’s well being.
government and social authority support has been pretty lacking. I recognize the need for financial and mental health support.
The government's "support" has been negligible. We needed free healthcare for all, a Universal Basic Income to get us through this, and a robust social safety net. What we got was laughable, and has led to hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths. Our government prefers misery and suffering to simply providing the people with what they need.
It was horrendous, lots of misinformation, confusion, it continues.
