I imagine our future. I support you. You support me. I imagine you in the audience of one of my big speeches. I thank you. A tear falls. The crowd cheers. But they have no idea. How strong our love is. We drive home together. Our three year-old greets us at the door. He's half you. Half me. But your mom says he's all you. You're all mine. You take me with you on a business trip. We're in a foreign country. I'm in this fancy dress. Sipping on champaign. An accessory on your arm. You introduce me to your business partners. We travel the world together. We stay young together. Our son is four and his sister is on they way. You're excited because you've always wanted a daughter. The pregnancy is hard this time. But you're still here. We argue. But you never leave. I don't talk to you for three days. But at night I cuddle in your back. You let me. There are no rings on our fingers. Our trust is that strong. When we decide to get married. It's because you were in a bad car accident in Hong Kong. And I'm in Paris. You reassure me you're okay. But who's to sign the medical papers. Our infant daughter is in a tiny white dress at our wedding ceremony. We've both always hated tradition. My parents haven't spoken to me in five years. But my mom sneaks in the wedding. It's small and humble. She always wanted a big one. You meet her. She's doesn't say much. But because she hasn't sliced your throat with our cake knife yet. It means she likes you. We dance in the ocean. Last night together till we separate. For seven months. You take care of business in Dubai. I do research in India. The world seems so small now. I visit the college where we met. Nostalgia is sweet. Memories are deceptive like that. Time apart is hard. But we did it before when we were young. We were each other's first love. But the hurt and mistrust of immaturity and insecurity were ruining things. So we made a promise. To reconnect after a few years. The breakup was hard. I couldn't leave my bed for a few days. I couldn't imagine you with another girl. So I left. Moved to another city. Found myself again. Fell in love again. With someone I had hated for years. Myself. And it was refreshing. Time is a blessing. And a curse. Now I'm turning 30. You remind me I'm beautiful. Every single day. Our kids remind you. You are not your biological father. He could go to hell. And the world is all kinds of fucked up. But we organize charities. Donate our love. To the disadvantaged. To the abandoned. You retire early. Want to spend as much time with the ones you love. Our grandkids are prodigies. You're proud. Of your accomplishments. Of mine. I'm full of hope. Now more than ever. And maybe one day humanity will self-destruct. But for now there is love. A love that transcends the end of the world. Maybe our spirits will find each other again. Or maybe we will perish into a peaceful dust.
A life with you by B
