Namaste: One of My Favorite Words (and Why It Still Lights Me Up)
Hey there, lovely souls! This is officially blog post #3, and I am soooo excited to keep sharing more pieces of my heart with y’all. Today, I want to introduce you to one of my all-time favorite words—a word that found me during my college years, stuck with me through every twist and turn, and still centers me to this very day: ✨ Namaste ✨ Yep, that little word that sounds soft and sweet—but…

the only thing ive learned in college so far is that if you complain to your professors long enough they'll raise your grade
College Lessons 2: Take Time for Yourself
Dayumm Lovebugs, I'm back at it again with another 'College Lessons' blog post, but this one is about taking time for one's self. I am a full time student, and I have a full time job as a RA(Resident Assistant) on my campus. I am, also the President of SISTUHS, Inc. chapter, as well as the secretary for Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated chapter at my school, and I am the events coordinator for the Black Student Union. That being said, I know quite a bit about being stressed out and needing a break. I know that as college students, we can sometimes loose sight of what's really important, which is our mental health. When I start to get super stressed out, I usually tend to separate myself from my friends and tend to stay in my room. I also don't get much work done when I'm stressed out; for some strange reason being stressed out slows me down.
I've learned that one of the best ways to de-stress for me, is to go outside and socialize. I know this may not work for others, but if your like me, being around other people and connecting with others, makes a world of a difference.
One way that I de-stressed recently, was by taking a trip to the beach with my SISTUH, Danielle. We went to Fort Lauderdale beach, and it was a much needed stress reliever. We got drinks and nachos at Rockbar, and laid out on the beach till sunset, and all the while we talked about our lives, our plans for the future, and random TV shows. I had an amazing time, and created memories that will last me forever. After our beach trip, I came back to my room feeling refreshed and ready to conquer the world.
I wrote this post to say that, taking time for oneself is essential to thriving in life, or you will burn out and nobody wants that. If taking ten minutes out of your day to do some deep breathing exercise helps you to re-center and feel less stressed, then do it. During my time in college, I learned that taking time for myself was required for me to function. Source: briannaimani.net
There’s no such thing as time. It is a fabrication we construct to make our lives seem more linear.
In life after graduation, what will pressure you the most is your classmates achievements and first job. The better your classmates/enemy/friend's job is, the more pressure you'll get, because when you know yourself that you've worked hard and became better than that person during college, you'll start asking yourself questions like "am I not good enough?" "Why am I being such a failure?" "Why is it that the world hates me?" And questions that will bring yourself down. I had those times especially when my blockmates are now flying the flag, and living the dream job which is to become a flight attendant. I had those times wherein I consider myself a shit because I couldn't become one right now because I am too thin to be an FA. I had those times. What keeps me going before is my belief that I might not be making a progress as fast as other people could, but at least I am making a progress, and I will surely get there. Aside from your friend's success as your de motivator, your motivator and your "at least" moments are when the one who's better than you during college is sucking at life right now. I have this one blockmate who is really smart, pretty and very charismatic during college, and you could see her rocking her future because you know she's confident enough to do so. I have so many expectations from her. I expected her to be one of the flight attendants after graduation, but where she is right now? She's living a sad life. Well, from what I can see, she actually is living a sad life. By sad I meant the kind of life that she doesn't imagine for herself. I know we both have the same expectation from her, but she's now fat, working at some travel agency, eating herself out, and trying to make life look fancy. I check on her once in awhile because I wanna see her succeed in life. I wanna see her happy. But from what I can see, she's trying her best and her best wasn't still good enough. She's trying to look like she's doing well but it is not working. It is not working maybe because that is what the universe wanted for her. But does she deserve all this? If she realizes she doesn't and go on all carb diet, stop eating her feelings or her stress, and stay focus on her goals, maybe she could, maybe she would, maybe she should. Looking at her, it made me realize that I am at a better place, and to stay in a better place, I have to work hard for it. I need to choose and my priorities right, and work towards my goals with my best. I can't be the same happy go lucky girl that I am during college. I need to excel in my field, and be a better version of myself I am yesterday. She becomes my measurement of failure because from what I can see, she hits rock bottom before, and it is hard to get out from it. Motivator or de motivator, all I can say is, for as long as you are making a progress towards your goal, it might not be as fast as other people could, what's matters the most is you are making a progress. Everyday you are one step closer to your goal. Everyday you are one step better than you are yesterday. Just keep going and never give up, and in the end, you'll get what you truly deserve.
