Screenwriting classes are so fun because what do you mean the pilot for severance was supposed to be super super different
So time for a little rambling. So we got our grades back for our Essay 2 in English, it was a poem analysis. I did mine on "Metaphors", by Sylvia Plath. So I did my fair share of research for this essay so I could better understand the poem, and I honestly thought I did very well on it. According to my professor, it was only worth a 60. So I'm a little irritated since I haven't been doing very well in this class and I actually thought I did very well on that paper. So maybe he'll hand them back today so I can see what I did wrong.
Why they scream
I feel sorry for my humanities class.
For the entire semester we're studying Ancient Egyptian, Mesopotamian, Roman and Greek culture.
I HAVE BEEN STUDYING THIS SINCE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL! I AM PREPARED!!
Holy shit. I just realized why he doesn't like my writing. It took me so long.
He wants it to be an academic paper, filled with facts, numbers, and examples of these facts and numbers. But that's not how I write. That's never been how I write. Even when I write papers like this... I do my best to tell it like a story. That's what history is after all, a very big story. And ingraining Captain America comics into it and explaining how the 1940s comics and the 2001 comics are different just makes it more obvious that I'm telling a story of history.
This guy doesn't like stories of history. He likes to be given the bare-bone facts and nothing more.
Holy fuck.
This is going to make writing easier and harder at the same time. Much, much easier because I know how to write it to make him happy, which is apparently the most important thing to pass the class- god forbid we all write differently. Maybe he really DOES see people as robots. *shudder* But also much harder because I'm going to be fighting my own current when I do this.
Well then...CARRY ON.
Sort of...passive-aggressive ramble to my history professor. Nothing important. My friends are amazing and talk me through things, so I am feeling better from yesterday. I'm not upset anymore, and I'm looking forward at this point.
I really just DON'T want to work on this paper. I just fucking don't. After what happened yesterday my motivation has been completely killed, and I don't want to deal with that professor anymore. I never would have pegged him as a jackass, but that's really what he is. Its not because he was critical of my work, I can handle that, and I don't really suffer from "omg but my work is perfect" syndrome. But when you're so condescending and rude to me, and call me stupid really, when you're evaluating my final hoop for my History major? Yea no.
I'm not stupid. Just because my writing style isn't 100% what you want, and just because I have a short attention span, does not mean I'm stupid. I'm sorry that not everyone just wants to sit around all day and read academic history for leisure. I'm not sorry that I don't meet your standards. I'm really not. I've never felt the need to meet someone's standards, and its the same with you. But you can't just insult students so readily and expect them to just be ok with it.
I don't need a professor who's ungodly encouraging. I don't need a professor to pat me on the head and say "good job" like you seem to think students do. I'm going to have a very hard time holding my tongue throughout this class. There's so much I need to say and you need to hear, but me graduating with a History bachelor's degree is more important than that. I'm going to jump through your little hoop and make you feel better, and walk away not having learned anything from you except that it is possible to irritate me in under 5 minutes.
If your students at Columbia university were so much smarter, and the school was so much better, please go back there. My university may not be perfect, the administration sucks and all they care about is the football, but the students here for academia are smart and engaging, and most of the professors are wonderful people and good teachers. Maybe you don't fit in here. Maybe you don't realize there's other types of smarts other than purely academic. And for that I'm sorry. I have so many wonderful friends and know so many wonderful people who are smart in so many ways. And you don't appreciate that. I feel bad.
I'll write your academic little paper, and I'll do it because I know there's a light at the end of the tunnel and that's graduating with my History major. I can make something of myself outside the field of history, and you won't really understand how. But it can happen.
My table at college is the most bamfiest table ever.
I'm gonna not go along with the rest of the class unless forced anymore, because it only stresses me out and leaves me in an uncomfortable position. I didn't produce much in the morning, BUT THEN IN THE AFTERNOON WHEN I WENT WITH THOSE FROM MY TABLE<3
Zoe, Emma, Emma ( XD )and Mike are all bamfs. Especially the first 3. :'D I also have a photo of Emma R. on the back of my phone now, as do the other two. x''D She has loads of stickers of herself that her mum somehow got her, and we.. maybe.. started sticking them all around the canteen... So if you're at Leeds College of Art and you see a sticker in a leaflet.. or under a table.. or on a fire hydrant. You know who put them there. B3
It's so nice to have people I can relate to for once as well in a certain way. I sharn't delve into the details, but I've never met anyone who was in a similar position to me before. Ever. o.O But yeah, I'm really warming up to everyone now ^^ it does take me a while, but they're all people I can get along with, so hopefully I'll stop being shy all together soon around them and will actually ask for things like pencils etc. 8D;
