Why a Gap Year Can Do Wonders for Students
A gap year is described as an extended period of time taken off from school or work in order for a person to reflect on their current state and hopefully grow. Gap years usually include taking off from school and travelling, taking in new experiences and seeing what else one’s country or the rest of the world has to offer. Other times, it is simply used to gain some practical work experience prior to pursuing higher level education.
Students endure high stress levels during college years often with heavy pressure to succeed and do well. Traveling and understanding new experiences can help subdue some of that stress. Think about all the times you have been stressed in life, then went out for a drive and felt better afterwards; now take that scenario and amplify it. Imagine instead of that drive, it is a trip to a place that you have never been to before, a place you could only imagine in your dreams. Gap years involving travel are extremely beneficial for mental health and allow the student to bring in a wide range of new experiences into the academic setting.
