Everything In Between - Colloboh (2022)
If you want chill older synth vibes. It’s helping my feelings tonight.
Colloboh - Saana Sahel
Saana Sahel EP by Colloboh
This pleasant-sounding and slightly experimental chillout album seems to draw heavily on jazz and acid jazz. It is not often that you come across such skillful drawing from the classics to embed melodic lines in a modern form.
Music can sometimes be compared to architecture, and this is the case here. Colloboh, a musician from Los Angeles, plays with great sensitivity, arranging thoughtful pieces with a clear influence of the classics, embedding melodic lines in the vivid colors of keys or violins, but also in a great-sounding ambient space. As in the case of architecture; it is modern architecture, but embedded in tradition and fitting into the historic, valuable buildings.
On the decks
From the release notes: Coming from the city of Gao, on the edge of the Saharan desert, Malian producer Baba ‘’Babsy’’ Konate is one of the key figures in the development of “Gao Rap”, a regional genre of modern autotuned Songhoi music.
Out on the excellent Leaving Records label, Colloboh (a portmanteau of Collins Oboh) is a Nigerian-born, Los Angeles-based experimental producer and composer who has spent the past several years cultivating genre-spanning modular wizardry. Highly addictive ear candy, this EP plays like the soundtrack to your sunniest days.
