The only thing I think silksong is missing is a colosseum of fools analogue. I’m starting my third 100% run because this is the most funest game ever but I just wish there was a big f u kinda arena like the moving spike walls of the trial of the fool.

Maybe that arena east of the seamstress where you have to do the climb and the floor is lava is like maybe 25% of the way there.

Also before anyone says high halls, high halls is maybe the difficulty of the first trial. Idk maybe I’m just bad at the first game but like high halls on 5 masks is waaay easier than any of the trials on 5 masks.

Like where’s my arena with nonstop flying bomb carrier dudes flying at me 3 at a time as a seemingly endless stream of pharlids come tunneling up through the ground? And put a low spiked ceiling there for good measure.

Some old doodles of my Hollow Knight oc, Nixie!

Now it's time for some infodumping.

Nixie is a butterfly, and a champion of the Colosseum Of Fools. I headcanon that butterflies typically pursue artistry, but that is a pretty broad definition. I think we all can agree that singing is an art, as Marissa is a songstress. But scholarly erudition is also, in a way, an art. Grave tending is also, in a way, an art. Fighting is also, in a way, an art. And the teachings of Nailsages are called "Nail Arts" for a reason.

Nixie wields a nail-lance, and was trained by the mantises. How? I haven't really decided. I have two options, one including one of Nixie's relatives using their personal charm and persuading the mantis lords into training Nixie, and the other one including Sly using his contacts and authority as a nailsage to do so. When Nixie was still little the Traitor Lord's daughter (who I named Erendis) basically became her babysitter (is that even the right word??????????) until the traitors were exiled.

The pattern on her wings is a mix between peacock butterfly (aglais io) and monarch butterfly (danaus plexippus). She uses them only when necessary, eg. when combat gets interesting. Something like Pure Vessel; after taking enough damage she'll whip up the wings and move faster, may consider some extra moves. But it's not too often, as using the wings is tiring. We can argue that it makes no sense since we see Marissa's idle animation, so I suppose it can be explained with genes. Like, there's a gene that determines if flying will be tiring or not. I think yall get it.
