God living under an airport flight path truly makes me want passenger air travel more or less completely banned. The sheer magnitude of the pressure waves they produce leave my ears ringing once I finally have hearing protection on. They wake you up in the middle of the night.
If cars are a daily dose of fascism distancing ourselves from the human other and having us interface as machines to machines, a metal casing which instills a psychology that inherently dehumanizes those around you, air travel turns that all the way up. Everyone below you are ants from an aircraft. Your convenience in getting to your destination some number of hours earlier entitles you to permanently harm the hearing of the thousands below you on takeoff, chronically increase their stress levels to the point of decreasing lifespans and all without anyone you’ve affected ever possibly being able to see your face for accountability—even more emotional distance in harm than the automobile.
Why does America invest in air travel at the detriment of less impactful modes of high speed travel (talking trains here) is the increased difficulty in maintaining segregation in travel infrastructure. Mass islamapobia and now gender policing is much easier to hide behind the veneer of security theater of air travel than that of a train station. The spatial area is far easier (and necessary) to maintain strict physical restrictions on movement in proximity to the vehicles.
Fuck cars. But honestly fuck airplanes even more. I hope I live to see the day that aircraft and automobile manufacturing is halted at any kind of mass scale. Only the death cult that is American culture yearns for these fucking murder vehicles that ruin our ecosystems and just fucking everything.
