Since Easter is approaching and I just learned that panettone arrived in Brazil too,
do you guys have Colomba on Easter as well? Was that brought over by italian immigrants too?
Absolutely!!!
Although it was never a thing in my family.
I first learned about the "Colomba Pascal" as it is called here from a Monica's Gang Easter special. There it's said that it came from the Italians, that it's supposed to look like a dove, and that's where the name comes from.
So the tradition definitely exists here in Brazil. You can even find it being sold here with chocolate and M&Ms
But the thing is, I never tasted it, my family never tasted it. I never saw it at my local supermarkets or bakeries here in Rio.
I assume that in São Paulo, where there are a lot of Italian immigrants, it must be more popular.
So yeah, the Colomba totally exists within Brazil, it's just not popular where I live.
@ariel-seagull-wings Is it more popular in your state?
