what got you into color/color theory and how did you go about learning it?

think our love of trying learn colors and color theory (nice color palettes kind) more started when we were highschool , specifically around 2019 - 2020 as remembered we tried focus more on it when we made @hauntedhearts-au
cant remember exactly Why or thought process , but think it started with character design as remembered we pride ourself in making nice designs , and color palette plays huge role in it especially because we started as animator and so lot our designs + colors (using very few) is from that
This artwork from 2019 and recalled being really proud of it , not just because incredibly pretty , but because how colors were
if color pick anything on it , will see that didnt actually use brown or yellow at all , everything in artwork is shade of blue , green , or cyan .
Reason did that was so it makes everything feel like under absolute blue sky
Really cant remember much beyond that so cant say if what will say next is fully true , but think this one of earliest forms of color relativity pieces we did as havent done any before 2019
Idk how thought of doing this or how even figured it out as not remember , but do recalled that we didnt watch any videos at all as most color theory videos n information annoys us with how talk about colors
(it just personal dislike , not like that often hear people go "always like this , always like that , color is this or that , never use this" , and especially hate when make colors to be "fake illusion , party trick , weird magical impossible" , idk how word)
Unfortunately lost lot of our 2020 artwork as deleted our twitter which was main social at time , but thankfully have few pictures saved ,
these ones here are from 2020 and was time when we really enjoyed doing grey desaturated colors . honestly miss doing these a ton and would love get back into doing these kind !
Again , not really remembered the how or why , it was something really enjoyed doing and pushing self to do , enjoyed feeling of getting so much out of so little and showing that desaturated pieces can look beautiful
what really started our interest in making colors appear certain way but not what color wheel says , it started from us seeing this grey strawberry illusion
this image of strawberry placed under filter , thing is that youll see red however there actually is no color red in it , its all cyan and grey . Reason why appears such is because cyan is rlly powerful color and surrounding a grey in cyan will make that grey appear warmer
It more complex form of color relativity , if you know that cylinder shadow + checkered board illustration , thats a more simpler version of this
We actually made artworks based on idea in 2025 using colors we made from ground up (not color picked or from any palette)
so can really really say that what started our interest in colors and color theory , specifically color relativity , is due to that grey strawberry illusion and finding lot enjoyment of making colors be more than what think would be
and more recently getting into specifically overlay art and tackling idea of the color model basics , its rlly fun !
But to now fully answer question:
we not go to art school nor any professional stuff or taken any courses or such , everything we have learn and done is purely just trial and error and completely hands on and doing , because we love it and feel shouldnt be seen as "impossible magic trick" , its not 'hard' and is any other skill just like specific parts of art like drawing person or animal
everything is learned hands on , doing , observation , curiosity , thinking about colors and putting more importance on what we see and not 'what actually is' , figuring out the how and why by hand
We personally never like idea of "just because" or "it just looks good" as answer for own art or color choices , we want be able explain and understand the why and play with it ,
we enjoy making things and art that requires very specific knowledge and skill to do which otherwise wouldnt exist , like our overlay art and much of @great-brilliant-radiance-au existence (that story can only work as UTDR au , specific character designs and formatting , about color theory , is book bindable , specific characterization and commentary , it lot very specific things that feel otherwise cannot exist as it specifically is without us)
