This weekend's project (held up a bit by the cold I caught), a casual look for Starfire, aka Koriand'r, from the Teen Titans. It was fun working with her atypical skin tone and eyes, as well as getting the change in her hair color right. Hopefully I did her justice overall.

I am a man of many projects and little follow-through. As such, I’ve started yet another new one.

While in the mood to do a quick demon girl last weekend I asked my family and friends for some suggestions of color schemes that work well together. My friend Anne offered up blood red, violet, lime green, and pumpkin orange, and what you see above is the result.

Since Anne described the combination as “You know, Halloween!” I decided to name this one Hallie. Obviously I didn’t limit myself to those colors, but I wanted to use them as the various focal points of the girl’s design. You’ll probably see a few more of these in short order, as it was really fun to do and I received a decent amount of ideas.

This is sort of a proof of concept for a color scheme question I asked this weekend, requesting three or four colors my friends thought would work well together. To my eyes, the green and orange were just related enough to make a good "natural" set, and in turn would really make her violet eyes (or eye, as it were) pop. I was afraid the blood red would be too harsh for her lips, so I used that for her shirt instead -- only to have a color coordinating website suggest something very close as a 5th color anyway (I honestly have no idea what color it is, though... is it even different? Did I just confuse myself and wind up using blood red again?). 

I named her Hallie, because... Halloween.

This week's project -- just a girl in her jacket. I did something new when shading her skin, adding a light blue overlay at a pretty low opacity. This gave it a cooler, more realistic hue... or at least I hope it did. Let me know what you see, especially for her hands. Okay, it's been a while since I've done one of these, but here's another Off-Color Art experiment. Basically, for the correct color Crystal, I used an eyedropper to pull the colors from various comic panels. Then I started over and tried to match those colors while the RGB codes on the color wheel were hidden. The colorblind version on the right is the result. To me, these two look 98% the same, save for the skin tone on the right seeming lighter to me (but not enough to make me try again, obviously).
